If Boxing goes mainstream, best believe that it would be semi-live, and not as you said like football on ABC. Going mainstream means more advertisers, meaning more commercials in between rounds. Which means they would be delaying the telecast to accommodate more advertisers.

If you think its tedious watching few commercials, wait till the advertisers comes flooding through.

This is a promotional problem, not a TV problem.

Football, basketball, etc. have a set time. They have seasons, they have set time per game.

Blame Sugar Ray Robinson, he was the first to want a cut from television, and live gate ticket. Blame Ali because the Thrilla in Manila made pay per view in boxing a reality.

The only way Boxing could be a mainstream sport again would be through network Television, just look how Boxing died in Mexico when it went to PPV and how it's growing and getting amazing ratings by doing the switch. There's a reason why Boxing is so big in Germany all the fights are on Network Television, If the promoters really want the sport to flourish once again this would be the way.

This thread is almost as much of a fail as Inferno's "HBO is rascist" thread.

I think it's more important for HBO and Showtime to allow ESPN to start showing goddamn highlights or the actual fights first

Waiting - viewers would be annoyed because of the number of TV ads between rounds.

Few Superstars - you can count with one hand how many superstars there are. Not enough to attract mainstream audience.

Unpredictability - team sports has predictable time, boxing time is variable. What happens to the commercials if the fight lasted only 1 round?

Boxing is not mainstream - team sports are now in the forefront.
Boxing in the UK had a boost when it moved onto ITV in the mid 00's.
Guys like Calzaghe where unknown before but became popular after being show on free TV, Having boxing on mainstream TV networks is a good thing not a bad thing.

ITV is a free channel in the UK and they show boxing they put a 30sec add between each round so you get to see the whole fight live.

Boxing broadcast in the Philippines are ****. Every end of the round, there's ****ing 5 minutes commercial break. WTF!. And most of sports channel are focused on MMA. People here would rather watch gay-ass dramas than any sports aside basketball.

You know, there is no reason to believe why boxing on Network TV isn't a good idea, reason why I didn't even bother reading the post, no offense.

Here in Mexico boxing was dead with the general public when it was on PPV.

But since 2006 boxing is in a New Golden Age since 3 channels on National TV began showing boxing every Saturday.

Mexico and Germany are the flaw in your theory, i will also add Japan.

Boxing is extremely popular in those places because of National TV
