Whats the closest fighter we've had in real life to Rocky Balboa?

I mean getting a fluke title shot, becoming a world champion, then becoming one of the greatest champions in his weight.

Rocky was considered a great heavyweight.

So who in the sport came closest to fulfilling this fantasy?

i'd say Chuck Wepner, being that he was the actual inspiration for the movies...

Steve Robinson . He was a boxer who was working in Debenhams then in just 2 days notice he took a title fight with John Davison for the WBO featherweight belt which he won on points. That came to my mind when you mentioned rocky.

Isidro Garcia won a title being picked to fight on the night of the fight being chosen from the spectators.

Yes.The original bout was for the WBO flyweight title between Jose Lopez and Alejandro Montiel.
Alejandro Montiel was originally scheduled to fight Lopez for the vacant crown, but withdrew a few hours before the fight. Garcia happened to be in attendance as a spectator and was asked to step in while sitting at ringside eating a doughnut. Garcia fought and won the title using borrowed trunks, protective cup and mouthpiece.
