A boxer will always have more of a chance in an MMA style match, than an MMA guy will have in a boxing only match.
Why?
Because even in MMA guys like to stand and trade, and the boxer always has a "puncher's chance" being the superior fighter with his fists, to catch his opponet when he gets ****y or overconfident.
Whereas the MMA guy stepping into the boxing realm is forfeiting 6 of the 8 weapons he is accustomed to using, plus his takedowns, and the entire ground game. Not to mention he's facing men who are absolutely superior to him in every way, shape, and fashion when it comes to throwing fists.
The videos BlackIrish posted are perfect examples of how well a boxer can transition from boxing into a kickboxing or MMA type bout.
And Mercer/Sylvia is a perfect example of what a washed up, 50 year old Heavyweight boxer can do to a top 10 MA Heavyweight if the MMA guy is deluded enough to think he can take the risk of standing with him.
Fists alone, Roy easily KO's him under a minute. Fists and elbows Roy still KO's him ........but kicks, now thats a totally different story Roy will regret that big time

I agree, kicks can land outside of Roy's punching distance and Silva is brutal with his feet and elbows.

With fists, elbows and kicks Silva absolutely murders Roy Jones IF he wanted. Anderson Silva knows his stuff on his feet, and is completely able to unleash it in a furious way unlike Tim Sylvia.
RJJ is one of his greatest heroes, so he may very well be merciful for him, as also RJJ likely would be if they were just boxing and him kicking Silva's ass.
Both have a great respect for each other as a fighter, and sport-wise, Silva ain't bashing Boxing as RJJ ain't bashing MMA.
If this fight happens, I see it like a super-exhibition fight between 2 HoFers. One from Boxing, other from MMA.
Whatever the rules were.
I cant beleive you guys are boxing fans. Im not telling you to be homers but you are really sleeping on boxing if you think its a sure thing that RJ gets killed by Silvia in this format. As long as its a standup fight I think you guys are underestimating just how much better boxers are than UFC guys in a boxing match. In a straight boxing match, even a washed up RJ kills Silvia without a doubt. Its no contest. If you allow the bows & kicks then it changes things but to me RJ still has the advantage because his speed & overall boxing ability will be too much even for a guy like Silvia. The kicking & bows will no doubt make it closer but I think RJ is still fast enough to get out of the way and strong enough to be able to take some while I think he will crush Silvia or any other UFC guy with his hands. Thats why Dana wont do it. You guys are drinkin the kool-aid but not him
Roy Jones has never been in a position to block kicks, elbows, or all of the above coming at him at once. Silva's made a career of knowing how to break his opponents down and finding their openings and if you're giving a world class Muy Thai Kick Boxer the opportunity to throw kicks and elbows against a Boxer who only knows how to defend punches, it could definitely spell disaster for Roy.
If it were strictly a Boxing affair, you have to give Roy the advantage. But I just don't see how Roy would contend against someone who's considered THE best in the sport (not just your ordinary MMA fighter) at what he does and being able to block kicks that will be coming incredible fast and hard along with Silva's striking (which is also not to be slept on either).
