It's pretty obvious that the WBC created the Diamond Catchweight belt because of Manny Pacquiao.

It's unfair to make the welterweight limit 145 and not 147 and make Cotto focus more on losing that 1 pound, and come into the fight at 80%-90% and not a 100%.

It's also unfair to make the limit 145 and then demand for the title to be on the line.

It's also unfair that if Pacquiao wins, he gets the title even though it wasn't a title fight.

It's also unfair that Pacquiao has the #2 ranking in the WBO. What has he done in the Welterweight division?!


Miguel Cotto must win for the good of Boxing. Don't let the love for Pacquiao blind you. He is not an angel and he is not the most humble boxer. If he was humble and fair, why would he ask for a 65-35 split?! I am a fan of Pacquiao and Cotto. But for the good of Boxing, Cotto must smash Pacquiao to pieces. A lot of bull**** has come into Boxing that it doesn't need (WBC Catchweight Diamond belt). Sooner or later, other sanctioning "Mafia" organizations "gangs" will come up with new belts, and that is the last thing Boxing needs.

It's good for boxing if either one of them wins, if Cotto wins, he becomes a big star that the PR fans can get behind even more than now and he would catch the attention of some casual fans.

If Pacquiao wins, it makes him even a bigger star than he already is which will make more people tune into boxing which could lead to the most significant fight in boxing in years against Mayweather if Mayweather beats Marquez.

I think this fight is win-win.

65-35 split is fair. pac is the face of boxing and an international superstar appearing in commercials with the likes of kobe bryant. cotto is a regional draw (NY and PR).

The reality of the situation is that if Pacquaio wins then he will obviously continue to fight at a catchweight.

My take on it is this, you want to be a welterweight then fight at the WW limit. If you wanna b a light welter or whatever then fight at that limit. The sanctioning bodies are now creating belts to cater for all this catchweight bull****. Its not good for the sport. There's enough divisions as it is, catchweights are unnecessary. Y does he want to be able to claim that he won belts in 7 weight divisions when he wont fight at the 7th divisions limit.

I agree with the original poster, a Cotto win would be better for boxing. A Pac win would set up a superfight with Floyd, which would be good- but would also most likely b a catchweight fight. If Cotto wins its WW's fightin WW's at the WW limit an theres no need for diamond belts an whatever other bull**** the abc's are dreamin up to milk the situation
