I interviewed Buddy McGirt about 20 mins ago for an article I'm working on for next month's Boxing Digest commemorating the life and career of Arturo Gatti. Here is what Buddy had to say about the round of the century.
"I was gonna stop the fight. His friend Micky Red said "Don't stop it coach."
"They had a doctor working the corner. The doctor was talking to Arturo in Italian. He started talking to me in Italian and I said "Doc, I don't understand what the hell you're saying. I'm not Italian." He says sorry and starts speaking to me in English.
What I really loved the most was Arturo's approach. He said, "Help me stand up and I'll finish the round."
