captured WBC Light middleweight title in 1982 fromWinfred Benitez
captured WBA light middleweight title in 1983 from Davey Moore

Lost barely in bout for undisputed Middleweight title to Marvin Hagler in 1983 judge: Guy Jutras 142-144 | Judge: Yusaku Yoshida 145-146 | Judge: Ove Ovesen 143-144 ~

Won WBC middlewieght title from Iran Barkley in Ring Magazines' fight of the year for 1989
