Cotto Does Not Agree With The WBO's Weight Stance

The WBO rules clearly state that there is no lower limit, only an upper limit of 147lb. If you don't believe me, see here.Comment

One simple solution for Pacquiao is simply not sign. What would he gain if this would be just an exhibition match, not a championship match, yet he would be fighting a champion at the 141-147 division? What would he gain if he establishes a very very hard victory yet people smear his victory just because its the maximum that he can do against a very tough and unusually heavy opponent at fight night?
I advise Pacquiao to simply not sign and just fight Berto at 147 for a crown. Would Cotto and his fans complain? Oh, yes they will. But Pac and his fans don`t really need him.
That`s when the real crying starts, ask PBF who could have had the honor and chance to fight and defeat a P4P champ outright but blew it.Last edited by ThunderWolf; 08-06-2009, 08:19 PM.Comment

These are very grave errors. Let me correct you that both fighters have not signed the contracts. Both only received drafts of the contract, and Arum formally informed the public and media on the match prematurely without informing the Pacquiao Camp, which drew the ire of its lawyers.

Everybody keeps saying that Cotto needs Pac; Well the truth is that after Mayweather the biggest money maker for Pac is Cotto, so Pac does need him as well. Otherwise, Pac fights Berto (no fan base, much less interest, two promoters involved), Mosley (fight will take place in Dec. at the earliest and again, smaller fan base, probably same interest, two promoters), or sits on his hands till Mayweather fights JMM. In the latter case Pac has to wait until Feb. at the earliest to fight again, just when his campaign for political office begins.
I think that's why Cotto is willing to stand behind his stated position. He, unlike other observers, knows Pac needs him. The same reason that some Ricans don't like Cotto - too serious, too lackadaisical, too business-like - are why Cotto will let Pac walk away if he gets to problematic. Cotto has a lot of money and a contract that stipulates a min. of 6 million per fight. Not bad. Your move Pac.Comment

Bob Arum is a pimp and he especially pimps Cotto hard. Kind of
bad how they treat Cotto sometimes, considering he is always a
quiet guy and fights who he is supposed to. Should have a lil more
respect for the guy in my opinion. The contract didn't stipulate that
the fight is for the title and now their saying it's for the title? Sounds
like Manny has and is holding all the cards. If you ask me, Manny is
a lil more demanding than Floyd. I am rooting for Cotto to win because
someone has to stop the forces of Roach/Pacquiao in the Sport of
Boxing.Comment
