Long Time PPV Promoter Joe Hand: Boxing is Dead

“Over the course of a year, we might do three big boxing matches, tops. UFC is running every month. And a year in advance, I know the date and site of those shows. When I go to sell [UFC] in a bar or a restaurant, they understand they’re going to get 3 hours of entertainment. Every fight is a great fight. Most boxing promoters, they’ll put on a good main event. But you might not find out who’s on the undercard until the last minute, and then it’s usually junk. If you own a sports bar and you can buy a UFC event for $1,000, and you know you’re going to pack the place, why would you buy the Mayweather fight for $2,200 and not do as well? People ask, ‘Do you think UFC will kill boxing?’ It already has. Boxing’s dead.”

Promoters needs to sign fighters to multifight contracts with dates pre written in the contract. Nothing is cemented fighters aren't as active and with a bunch of cowboys running wild are going to screw it up for everyone else. Boxing needs a commision like other sports. Screw all teh alphabets and sanctioning bodies most of them are more currupt and can just be bought off anyways. They need one commision to rule over it. If the promoters want to promote than their should be some regulating body over them to organize the sport and help to get rid of all the confusion. A better ranking system giving fighters a chance who might not normally get a chance. This tournament is the sart of how thing should be. We need more cooperation in the sport or everyone is going to be out in the cold...lefty

I mean, this is the thing...

The dudes in here see this and start crying like their moms got hit by a car or something (hopefully that hasn't happened in reality to anyone here...but just sayin...)

You cannot sit there and tell me that the UFC as a company haven't kept Boxing as an industry on their toes. Even guys like Jim Lampley applaud the efforts of UFC and MMA in all from their grungy beginnings to being a world wide attraction.

The reality is Boxing is flooded with Promoters who want a piece of the pie. They are the main reasons fights don't happen. With the UFC, you are guaranteed at least 2 to 3 marquee match ups EVERY PPV, not just one Main Event. But it's tough trying to explain that to someone who off the jump is going to **** on UFC just because.

Yes, Boxing is the more prestigious of the two considering it's been around for over 100 years and has rich history. But ya'll are telling me you wouldn't want UFC's popularity to crossover to Boxing?

I can tell a lot of you weren't around for the hay days of the 80s and early 90s. Boxing then was still a big deal to the general public.
