If it wasn't for the low blows, would Tito have still beaten El Feroz Vargas?

So what if was 8 years ago? It was still one of best fights I have ever seen. Trinidad should have been DQ'ed and Vargas would have scored the knockout. I mean he landed even more low blows after the big one in round 4 I believe. It's a shame that Vargas was never the same after this fight. He was a shot fighter at the age of 22 because of the legal and illegal blows that Trinidad landed. Vargas had one more chance against Oscar, but he really wasn't the same even in that fight.

Vargas would have had a much better and lengthy career. He probably would have lost if he had a rematch against Tito, but he would have at least had that signature win by being the first man to beat Trinidad. He might have even had more bigger fights possibly at middleweight if he moved up. It's crazy how one fight can change a fighters life forever.

I know this is an old topic, but it is one of my favorite fights of all time. I think it was disgusting what Tito did to save himself in that round. I believe that Vargas could have knocked him down or possibly out if it wasnt for Tito's cowardness. Your thoughts?

Funny you started this.. I re watched that fight two days ago at a buddy's house. We cracked his vault and watched Gatti/Dela Hoya and Vargas/ Trini..

Not sure if Vargas would have won..but those low blows had to take alot out of him. I do believe Tito hit him low in the 4th round on purpose. He himself was dropped and semi in trouble..funny that the very first punch he threw after getting dropped was a low blow..

that left hook was the best i have ever seen. Fast and Powerfull!!!! tito should have done more at the higher weights. Vargas was thrown to the lions too soon. Low blows happen specially when the fighter likes to punish the body, if he was hurt he had 5 mins to recover if he didnt used them you cant blame tito on that...Hell of a fight which had been a shame if the ref stop it on low blows (Both fighters)
