But I'm sorry, after reading how infatuated kids on this site are about Floyd, it further proves to me they're not real fans. They're just along for the ride. If Floyd had the personality of mule, his Boxing skills alone wouldn't get him by. Keep in mind fellas, there are MANY fighters you will probably never see that are incredibly skilled, strong, etc, but they just never get the chance. You have to have some type of appeal to the public and once Floyd saw the good guy image wasn't working, he went the opposite route and tried to make the public hate him. Why? TO SELL TICKETS...and I honestly thought that was a brilliant idea. But, what is the one thing that can tarnish that aura? Him losing. If you come off and scream about being the greatest and all of a sudden you catch an L, what happens to your bargaining chip? Your gimmick? The reason why people come to see you fight?

THAT is what's made me kind of fall out of being a true fan of Floyd's. He's had the opportunity to fight the Shane Mosleys, Miguel Cottos, Antonio Margaritos, etc to prove his worth at the top level, but he's made a career of choosing the fights that would make his aura that of substance, but when you have fighters there that are looming and HAVE BEEN looming for sometime now with the repeated excuse for not fighting them is "money", where does that leave him with his fight with Marquez on the horizon that has been made a mockery of and a fight 3 1/2 months away (Pac vs Cotto) that is the talk of the Boxing world as is being billed as THE fight of 2009?

And again guys, this is not a diss towards Floyd, I've just realized the dude has possibly thrown away the chance to have some epic fights while they still meant something.
that is all well and good but jesus you make it sound like this fight is the be all and end all of floyd's career/legacy.

Give the guy a break, it's essentially a glorified tune up fight for floyd, who can still lose, I dont think he will, but it's not an easily predictable fight like some people would have you think.

the way people are talking you'd think a heavyweight is about to get it on with a featherweight.

It's funny how nobody says anything about Cotto fighting Pac.

Cotto fought Margarito and lost, and against Clottey I thought he lost that one as well. What has cotto done recently to earn a fight with floyd? Nothing. Floyd has been away for two years.

No its called one being bigger than the other. Also if you had a mind you would know that Pacquiao and Cotto are the same in height and Reach . Think before you speak boy!

difference is that pacman fought at welterweight once, and marquez never fought at 140. so you still lose

he'll get credit from purists....the haters and casual fans? no.

floyd is favored b/c he's a better fighter, and bigger, but jmm is no joke. floyd will win, but it won't be the "walk in the park" everyone assumes, especially since floyd hasn't fought in 2 years. i don't care who you are or what it is you do, if you stop doing it for 2 years, then return, you're gonna be rusty. these guys are professional fighters, and jmm marquez is ranked NUMBER 2 p4p. if pbf is too rusty, he could get upset fighting a guy like marquez....not likely, but the chance looms bigger than most ool want to admit.

I'm not going to act like JMM doesn't have a chance and this is a joke fight, but no matter how you slice it is a welterweight fighting a lightweight. Considering he could have fought a tune up against a legit welterweight then fought Mosley or Cotto, or waited two days and made a fight with Pacquiao, he deserves criticism.

But that's the point, Cotto FOUGHT those guys. Floyd's main reason for not fighting certain fighters was because of money, but how much of that is really credible when his biggest paydays came against fighters who had an enormous fan base, but were they THE best fighters at that time? One could argue for days about that...but it was a smart business move on Floyd's part, no credit taken away.

But, Floyd's passed the point of fighting one guy to get to the next. He's "supposed" to be the draw in the sport and the top dawgs "should" come to him, right? Isn't that how it usually works? He easily could've had the Pacquiao fight, but he saw a quick payday with JMM and took that before getting a bigger money fight with Pacquiao. But what if Cotto wins? Now Floyd can run around saying he was better than Pacquiao anyway? No...Cotto could say I FOUGHT and BEAT Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao's going up fighting arguably the top 2 WW in the world. When was the last time Floyd even FOUGHT a WW? It takes bigger balls to fight a prime WW than fighting a 37 yr old Lightweight who's never fought above 135lbs. Sorry, I just don't see the comparison.

I give him credit. JMM is an awesome fighter. Floyd isn't a real big guy himself.
