As an indifferent American that neither loves or hates Calzaghe, I can see why people hate him.

Still I like his style. I think underneath the surface of his slappy looking style is a technical genius of a boxer. He's got a solid chin, great workrate and doesn't just brawl, he BOXES. Watch the Kessler fight if you need convincing that Calzaghe knows how to BOX.

Bhop may be old but p4p he's still one of the most sophisticated technicians in the game REGARDLESS of age. Rewatching the fight many times I think Calzaghe beat Bhop. That was no easy feat. Especially considering Pavlik was so dominated soon after. And in that fight I saw Pavlik winning not ONE round.

All that said, I do agree that Calzaghe ducked RJJ and Bhop when they were younger and spent way too much time fighting in his own backyard.

Does Hopkins land anything in that gif besides the headbutt?

Okay, if Calzaghe is a slapper... and is so **** and that, then why did Hopkins lose the fight?

Almost all of his big fights were entertaining performances. Eubank, Mitchell, Brewer, Lacy, Kessler, Jones. The only one that stunk was Hopkins and we all know why.

Personally ; I never enjoyed watching him fight. I found his style to be too sloppy and awkward for my tastes.

He did everything backwards. Everything that a boxer is supposed to avoid doing ; Joe did. He was very much like Ali in that respect. (Believe me, this is the only time you'll ever hear me mention these two in the same sentence.)

But the variety of style is one of the many things that makes boxing such an appealing sport to follow.

There's tons of guys I like whom many would rather gouge their eyes out than watch. Hopkins and Klitschko, for starters.

So I can see why somebody would fall for Joe's style, as well.

                  Different strokes for different folks.

His style just wasn't one I enjoyed watching ; probably because I often found myself wondering how he got away with all of his mistakes more often than actually watching him fight.

But hey ; this is just one man's opinion.

I actually found the Hopkins fight to be a very interesting one.

I realize I'm in the minority on that one though.

But seeing Hopkins make Joe fight his fight early, and then watching Joe make subtle changes to his game to adapt to Hopkins mid-fight, and then watching how Hopkins was reacting to it all was very interesting to me.

I think the fight would've been much more compelling had Hopkins not ran into a wall in the stamina department.

Typically ; he's a very strong closer. Had he had the energy to close strong against Joe I think we might've seen some real fireworks.
