Neither guy pushed for it though.
williams is always out of the equation cause nobody wants to fight him at welter. margarito was calling out floyd and was offered $8m but didnt hear him but when a midget(jmm) calls him out he responded. floyd have a serious case of selective hearing i think. also shane looks small at 154 so i take it that hes a natural welter. its not cotto's style to call out fighters and we all know that.

Yeah I think that's because he has been in situations where he was winning in the past only to have something get through and hurt him like in the first Brewster fight. I just don't find his technical and cerebral approach boring. Some people used to say similar things(though not as much ) about Lennox. To me the real issues is the rest of the division needs to find a way to be competitive against his technique.

thats another thing that bugs me about Wlad, which is no fault of his what so ever.
I want to find out just how good he is. And until someone pushes him and forces him to up his game a bit, we wont know.
Like Lennox history will look more kindly on him after he retires and we're left with a bunch of fatties. But he still wont be rated with the best of all time (and rightly so imo) until if/when someone froces him to dig deep and show what else he has got after the 1-2 doesnt work

Cotto ain't beaten a champ for his titles, but the man makes the belt, not vice versa.

Floyd's reign at welterweight can be described as opportunistic.
I don't think he necessarily went out of his way to avoid the best, he only did that by retiring, but he basically took the money fights there save Margarito.

Baldomir being lineal is kind of a joke because the lineal belt was passed around quite a bit back then.
I remember seeing Baldomir the very fight before he upset Judah. He was buried deep in an undercard, and the next fight I thought to myself this is the guy who is lineal after beating Judah who went 1-1 against Spinks.

Floyd would've been dumb to not fight Hatton and DLH, but I was disappointed that he retired with unfinished business in the division.

Floyd as a welter has been kind of a let down.

The Margarito thing was that he was calling out Floyd because Floyd at the time was the biggest name in the division. No doubt about it at that time Margarito was still upset about being denied a shot from the other chapions well before Floyd got to Welter. People forget that Tony wanted Zab and Spinks. When Floyd became champ of course Tony wanted him because he was an even bigger name than the previous guys. The fight would have been a good move but when you actually go back and look a lot of people were already getting of Floyd's case for fighting Zab and not Baldy. Margarito would have been the better fight but Baldy was coming off two tv victories and had a story like the Cinderella man movie. The money was the same and title would have been the undisputed welter crown. Most people will not admit it today but the Baldy fight made sense and there were some in the sport calling for it at the time. Margarito deserved a shot, but he always deserved it way before Floyd came up in weight. As far as Cotto calling out names it would be fine for him to say he wanted to fight the top guy in his division for the undisputed belt. He has made it known in the past that he was interested in Pac as well as Margarito. He is as much to blame.

floyd fought baldomir cause its a more winnable fight for him. slow as a cow, poor KO percentage. thats a fact. and about miguel not calling out floyd, it wouldnt make much different if he does. floyd expressed manys time before that hes the shotcaller so fighters out there losing their voice to have a shot with floyd wont have a shot as long as theyre a threat. good posts bro green K for you

Baldy had good build up through Zab and Gatti(rip). It was a Glenn Johnson like run until he lost to Floyd. I think a lot more fights became available later on when Floyd was going to retire. Now that he is back he has to fight some combo of Shane/Mosley. He showed up in the division at a terrible time but I remember back then that a lot of people didn't actually have too much of a problem with what was going on until after it was done.

True it was winnable but it was also the main title in the division. It also helped that Baldy had some exposure in his two previous fights since they wanted the fight on Pay per view. I'm not saying Floyd would have ran and fought Cotto if he was called out. All I am saying is it's really not avoiding a guy if he isn't that interested in fighting you either.
