And let me tell you, whoever in Brazil chose to announce that Arturo's death was a suicide on that day is a real ******.
More significant though was that many people from all walks of life - particularly in boxing - came out to Jersey City to pay their respects to the man. Off the top of my head, I'd say Micky Ward, Chuck Zito from Oz, Micky Rourke, Tomasz Adamek, Ronnie Shields, Patrick Farrell, Jorge Diaz, Ivan Robinson, Omar Sheika, Lou Dibella, Paulie Malignaggi, I mean so many people were there it's hard to remember.
The most moving speaker of the procession was Lou Dibella. He said, "Arturo Gatti love life. Arturo Gatti never quit in the ring. Arturo Gatti never quit in life. And he never quit in Brazil. Let's pray that truth and justice comes out of Brazil." He said what everyone was thinking but didn't say and received the longest ovation of everyone.
Afterwards everyone went to Lua in Hoboken, Arturo's favorite place for the Irish wake. It was good, we all celebrated Gatti's life like he would have wanted us to. I had an idea at about midnight and told the DJ to play "Thunderstrike" by AC/DC, which was his theme song.
Suddenly the place erupted when they heard the opening riff and the wake turned into something like a resurrection ceremony.
