This is the first time i sat down and watch this fight carefully.
first let me say that Whitaker got robbed of a win. he was controling the ring the distance and he landed cleaner effective shots. Now, the fight wasnt as wide as people claim it was, after 6 rounds I had Chavez ahead by a point. Those first 6 rounds were a low blow festival, I have never seen a mega fight with so many low blows, let alone not getting any point deducted. Chavez in the first 3 rounds was ****ing on Peas hip and then in the rounds 3,4,5,6, Pea was straight up punching Chavez in the nut sack and on purpose. They were hugging each other badly speacially Sweat Pea. Those first 6 rounds were as ugly as Ive ever seen.
In the second half, Chavez started to gass out and sweat pea started to break him down with body shots and he was teeing off on Chavez face. Chavez was discourage badly, he barely won a round in the second half of the fight.
And I disagree with all the people saying Sweat Pea was putting this huge boxig lesson on Chavez, that was far from it. Whitaker won the fight actually by been agressive and firing back. He out muscle and out fought Chavez nore than Outboxing him. Dont get wrong what Im saying, because what Im trying to say is that Pernell did better when staying in the pocket and countering and putting pressure on Chavez than when he was on his back shooting Arm punches.
In the end, Whitaker got robbed of a clear win.
