I kind of always viewed Mayweather as a true junior Welterweight that had such great skills that he could compete at Welterweight. I think that Junior welterweight is his true division and IMO he's the ATG Junior Welterweight. I think that because of his arrogance he refused to operate from such a position, which would have served him well and would have granted him much respect. There's no shame in it, he's just too small to claim ATG type of status in that division. It was a silly not well thought out move on his and his handlers part. Nothing wrong with a smaller man, challenging a bigger man, indeed much respect is granted that, case in point with Pac - Cotto. But I don't think anyone is going to be accepting of Pac promoting himself as ATG at welterweight. It would be silly.Comment

What are you doing acting all uncivilized on this forum like that. What Shane did by moving up to fight Oscar and hanging Floyd out to dry is the equivalent of moving up and fighting someone like Kelly Pavlik instead of Andre Berto because Mayweather hadn't made his bones yet. Genaro Hernandez had already been beaten into submission by De La Hoya before DLH got to him and Oscar was viewed as a tougher challenge at the time. Shane was at 154 fighting Vargas in September and Floyd expected him to drop seven pounds down to Welterweight within a two month time frame to meet the November deadline and Shane didn't duck him at all. And this is combined with De La Hoya's intentions of getting a shot at Floyd. After Shane beat Collazo, Mayweather took the lesser challenge in Ricky Hatton after Mosley aggressively pursued him for a fight while being the WBC interim champ and Floyd's #1 challenger. Thanks, and have a good day.Comment

If Floyd wants a piece of WW crown, he should fight a top WW...
He dares to call himself an ATG fighter... Well he will never become in the eyes of many, until he does what he had to do for the couple of recent years: fight plenty of great WWs who have been in the division for the last couple of years... And i`m talking about: Williams, Margarito, Mosley, Cotto, Clottey!
By far, Floyd (along with Roy Jones Jr. whom i simply adore) is the biggest "could`ve", "would`ve" boxer in the whole history...
He could have locked his HoF status if he fought somebody out of that list... Instead after he defeated Hatton (which i give him credit for), he proclaimed himself an ATG fighter, and all the top WWs "unworthy" challenges... This is not the way you earn your legacy...
This is coming from a potential hater, as i see a talented boxer, who once took challenges (Castillo, Corrales) but as time passed turned into a scandalous romped hysteric baby, who preffered big names (Judah,Oscar,Hatton) to real challenges (all the recent WW titleholders).
It is not about hating the loud-mouths... Ali was also a trash-talker, but he proved his elite status by fighting the TOP of the TOP`s competitions...
Now Mayweather is taking a lightweight who moves up two divisions up... I can`t say this is a BAD fight, as i respect JMM A LOT, he will become a deserved HoFamer! But in the same way Floyd can challenge Calderon, who will move hell-knows-how-many divisions up, beat him and say that have defeated an unbeaten two-division title-holder!
He did good job in defeating opponents who were in the same ring with him, but the problem is that there are no RIGHT people on his record...
Until there are none, i`m not a Floyd fan!I also feel Floyd is the greatest talent who has chosen not to fulfill his potential. Skill-wise, he's light years above anybody. Even after nearly two years away from the ring, most boxing fans have to admit that so long as he comes out of retirement, he's the man you have to beat in order to claim the WW throne.
But this goes the other way too. He can talk all the **** he wants, but unless he takes on the top welters and beats them, he's not a true champion either. And definitely not an ATG.
Floyd needs to face the fact that Green (his sole focus) does not automatically confer Greatness.Comment

Bunch of ridiculous people which don’t make sense with their comments. Gayweather never can be called a true welterweight champion, because he never was. Miguel Cotto with a bunch of haters around has proved that he is the best welterweight at this time. Some idiots’ writers voted Mosley as best welter, he was defeated very easy by unanimous decision by Cotto, in the second hand Cotto lost that fight with Margacheata because that girl which does not has cojones in place fought with loader gloves. Next year you will see who is the true welterweight champion after Cotto destroy Pacquiao and fight Margarita and Mosley and beat their ass easy.Comment

just stop bum ass cause u have know idea what the **** your talkin bout in your comment, mosley didnt fight oscar into mid 2000, and after vargas he fought collazo floyd fought a undefeated hatton who bring the UK to the U.S for way more money then ****in collazo who hatton already beat you idiotCollazo would've been a waste of Floyd's time since Mosley already beat him. I'm just saying that Mosley is a way better fighter than Ricky Hatton and Floyd knew that. But De La Hoya was viewed as a more dangerous fighter than Floyd in 2000 and you've got a problem with Mosley taking that fight. Compare the way Mosley beat Collazo and the way that Hatton beat him and then get back with me.

If we are talking about WW crown we need to focus on what these fighters have done in WW not on other divisions. It is clear on the posts on this thread that the top WW should be between Mosley, PBF and Cotto so let me sum up for ou gu what they have done at WW:
PBF oponents at WW:
Ricky Hatton, Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah. Sharmba Mitchelle
PBF's record at WW:
4-0 with 2ko
Pro: still underfeated
Cons: hasn't fought a true WW since Baldomir in 2006 hatton is not a WW
Mosley's Oponents at WW:
Margarito, Cotto, De La hoya, Collazo, Wilfredo Rivera and several more.
Mosley's Record at WW:
13-3 with 9 ko
Pro: Last impressive victory against Margarito raise his standing in WW
Cons: 3 defeats 1 against Cotto who is in the comparrison.
Cotto's Oponents at WW:
Clottey, Jennings, Margarito, Mosley, Quintana, Mosley, Zab Judah, Urkal and Gomez
Cotto's Record at WW:
8-1 with 5ko's
Pro: Has a victor over Mosley who is in this comparrison and higher risk oponenets faced
Con: His defeat against Margarito (plaster or not) and close decisions fights.
After taking a look at these numbers it is clear that PBF is not the topgun at WW he will need to do more against true WW fighters to beat Mosley or Cotto in that matter.
That PBF has more skills? Yes. That he has probably a better record overall in the rest of the divisions? Obsolutely but to proclaim yourself the best WW of the moment you have to face the best WW of the moment. Cotto and Mosley have done that, Mayweather hasn't.
On the All Time Great issue. I beleive Mayweather has the potential and the skills to beat the best boxer out there but until he doesn't face them we will never know if his skill were enough. All Time Greatness is mearsured by the quality of your oponents and all though i do respect PBF's option to go for the big bucks (hell even i would think about it) instead of the best fighters available, you can't proclaim yourself, much less compare your self with soem great legends and All Time Greats.
Once again i'm not a PBF hater, i did say i beleive his has the skills to be an All Time Great, but it is not about having the skills, it is about using your skills against the best to prove and back up whatever comes out of your mouth.Comment

Then why do you have a problem with Mosley fighting De La Hoya over Floyd at the actual time he was considered at the top of his game? I'll tell you why. Because you're a double standard using troll ass prick hugging on Floyd's nuts. And you are saying Hatton brought in more money than Collazo and where in my post did I dispute that numnuts?Collazo would've been a waste of Floyd's time since Mosley already beat him. I'm just saying that Mosley is a way better fighter than Ricky Hatton and Floyd knew that. idiot i mean iceta once again u have know idea what your talkin about, after mosley said he wasnt ready for a fight wit mayweather he fought callazo early07 still didnt call out floyd, but hatton on live tv on HBO mid 07 called out floyd, so why the **** would he keep chasing after someone who said out there mouth that he wasnt ready.for all the cotto lovers when merchant ask cotto if he wanted to floyd and on a boxing wedsite interview he said he have to speak wit his promoters, but when floyd was asked on espn when cotto was unbeaten would he like a fight cotto floyd said, he would love to cotto but cotto gotta say he wanna fight not talk to his promoters, floyd said he is his own promoter and cotto's promoter cause he mr HBO himself, so cotto need to talk wit him. floyd dont duck nobody fighters never call him out, the only ones who did call him out was hatton, and he got ko, and now JMM, and floyd will take care of him in september. Margarito called him out but look at him now, and at that time nobody new margarito and if floyd would of beat him people would have said who was margarito.now if floyd do fight mosley and beat him then they'll say mosley to old like they said after he beat oscar at 154, but pacquiao can beat oscar and get credit for it. Floyd dont duck nobody if boxers want it all they gotta do is tell there promoters and floyd.Comment
