  • Sad News but I'm not longer surprised anymore.

I hope HBO and ESPN are able to pay their respect to him as well by showing some of his fights.

If someone attempted to carjack him I'm sure they were strapped and he chose to chase them, gun in his hand or not. He also apparently left his young stepson alone in the car to do so.

Easily could've been prevented in my opinion.
To say it was his fault is harsh, to be fair if I had a gun I'd have probably reacted in the same way, it's easy to be level headed in retrospect, but when it's happening there and then you don't think you just do what comes naturally. If he didn't have then gun he might have swung for them with his fists and the same might have happened who knows? I don't think Vernon carrying a gun helped him in anyway though. I just hope they find the people that have done it, and put them away for a long time.

        • Now while I'm sure Forrest had a legal license for the gun, unless the kid was in the car when they attempted to steal it, he should have just let them take it and called the cops. Jags stick out and the cops would have likely found it in short order. No material possession is worth your life, plus his 1 gun vs the 2 the attackers had still left the odds intheir favor. Yet another sad day for boxing in a summer that has been filled with them.

Because all they probably wanted was a Jaguar and not to kill someone. Vernon could have protected his girlfriend's son and himself by standing aside, and letting them get off with the car. Then go to the police, get them to hunt down the car and the people who did it. Of course without the full facts being present this is speculation. I just think carrying a gun is more of a liability than protection, to me it sounds in this instance that Vernon pulling a gun is what triggered (no pun intended) the attackers to shoot back because at that point the attackers are thinking about their own lives and protecting themselves. Where as if Vernon didn't have a gun they might have just driven off in his Jaguar (the reason they instigated the attack if reports are to be believed) leaving Vernon and the kid unharmed.

Anyway, I hope they both get caught and get a life sentences.

            RIP Vernon.
I guess me and you live in two different worlds. I will carry a gun and protect my family and what's mine.

What if Forrest gave him the car and the guy busted on him and the kid anyway? Anyway agree to disagree

It wasn't his fault, true, but when you have a kid involved in this situation you can't just "react naturally" as you normally would. First & foremost on his mind should've been how to difuse the situation in the safest way for the child, and himself.

Chasing gun toting carjackers throught the street with your own gun while leaving the kid unattended in the very same car they tried to steal is just plain ****** and turned out to obviously be a very wrong move.

              • This is why generally I stay away from the local news. Too much depressing **** going on nowadays. I just stick to sports but lately a few boxing guys have been killed.

RIP. I really enjoyed his comeback fights after the surgery and the losses to Mayorga.

By doing what he did he didn't protect anyone, he put himself and the child in a more dangerous position.

What if they HADN'T and simply stole his car?

The move Vernon made was obviously the wrong one.

Common logic tells you, strapped or not, that chasing people with guns is never a smart idea, especially if you have a child with you. It makes no difference whether you're from Brooklyn or Bum****, Wisconsin; a ****** move is a ****** move no matter where you live.

Last I checked Vernon wasn't a cop and this ain't Bad Boys 3.

                  • This is getting sad. I was lucky enough to see Vernon Forrest 2x live. They where both against Ricardo Mayorga. He was a champ in and out of the ring. Injury problems hurt his career but not his self worth. Vernon was a class act.

                    • cant believe it The Veron Forrest was shot dead and it still not in B.S news.

Arturo Gatti, Alexis Arguello and now Veron?

There are also other celeb not in boxing who died close.
