I used to box in amateur but stopped...never intended to go pro. I train once in while just to keep in shape. I also wrestled a little in high school and know a little Ju Jitsu. So technically I'm an MMA guy. I got into boxing when I was younger cuz my step dad wanted to teach me discipline...because I beat the living **** out of this big kid who ****ed with me in school and my step dad didn't like the way I beat his ass...he thought it was a "sneaky and dishonaorable" way of doing it. What happened was this big dude who everyone was afraid of started to **** with me...and he just would not stop. So finally after a month of this decide I wasn't taking any more ****. So one day he got in my face like he was gonna beat my ass...this dude was huge at least 200 lbs. So when he got in my face I told him "I don't want to fight" and acted like I was afraid of him...so as soon as I convinced him that I didnt want to fight he turned his head laughing...when he turned his head away from me...that is when I sucker punched him as hard as I could in the side of the head and knocked him the **** out..as he was down I proceeded to get more free shots and kicks on him...ended up getting suspended from school...and my step dad thought i was a punk for sucker punching him, and put me in a gym to learn discipline. To this day I'm glad I beat that ****ers ass, cuz he broke the number one rule "never turn your back on your enemy"...I'm also glad cuz I got introduced into boxing for beating this ****heads ass.

Wow this is an awesome thread. The stories kick ass.
I just started boxing in NYC at Gleason's a little over a month ago. I'm 28, 173 lbs, but could probably get down to 160 and 5'10". I was thinking of trying for the Golden Gloves when I started but I realized I had way too little time to train. I am fairly new to boxing. I was pretty much an outside fan until my roomate had me watch some incredible fights and got me hooked about two years ago. Now I can't get enough. I did Tae Kwon Do at college and got my black belt. I went to all kinds of competitions and loved training. But I was never flexible and didn't enjoy the parts of the martial arts that didn't relate to either sport or defense (forms, step drills, etc). So I decided to try boxing, which is the hardest training contact sport imo with none of the nonsense. Man have I loved it. There is such a great feeling that washes over you after wailing on the heavy bag until your arms are sore. I plan on sparring in the amatuers and definitely in next years Golden Gloves. I plan (heavy emphasis on plan) to try and go pro. I will see where the road takes me. I'm not one of those fake hard guys who has something to prove. If I'm not ready I won't. Anyway I guess this is the end of my overly long post!

I do muay thai, because there are no good boxing clubs in my area and its the closest i can get. I'd love to start boxing and get into fighting, maybe even enter the ABA's or something, but without a good club it just aint gonna happen

the only boxing gym close by (i was living in baton rouge at that time) was on east 14th street, which is a high murder rate downtown area here. my father didnt want me to go, because he's a racist pig. however I am not, so I said what the hell and drove up there one day and that's where I got my start.granted the guys didn't know a whole lot and none were world champions, and no fighters who trained there were undefeated. a few were pros with a few ko's under their belt, and i learned from them.
they had a certain respect for me being white just showing up like that without fear
