I'll try to make it a little easier for you...

WBO Welterweight Champion = Miguel Cotto. Welterweight STARTS at 141lbs, the LIMIT is 147lbs.

The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto is contracted at 145lbs. 145lbs is NOT the Welterweight limit. The champion is being made to limit his weight lower than what the division requires.

Why was there a catchweight put into this fight? Who does it benefit?

again bro, lets not talk about the fight being at 147 cause we all know its not gonna happen. my topics concern is why cotto doesnt want to put the belt on the line against pac

then cotto defending the belt against pac is great for his business. cause he will remain as a champ but why not defend it?

so you know that welterweight starts at 141 then? 147 is the max limit and its not a mandatory that they fight on that weight.

thanks for answering my question. so miguel is the welterweight champ, and they are fighting at 145 which is welterweight, then why not put it on the line against pac? theyre fighting on welterweight anyway

            • manny shouldve just fought this at 147 for belt because cotto might of been 146 again for this and 1 pound dont really matter when cotto's plan is to weight at or near 160 fight night...but its probably all mind games from roach, he knows boxing too well. or maybe manny's speed might reduce at that weight too much to fight vs cotto effectively? i dont know. but 145 seems fair to me but kinda sucks for cotto who's naturally bigger than that to limit him...

youre right bro so the argument of the fight being at 147 should be out of the picture now. dont know why they still bring it up

                • again your thread is about confidence and the 147 thing shows that roach and team are not confident about fighting cotto at full strength. but i know you dont want to hear that so a direct answer to your question is i think cotto not putting the belt on the line has more to do with buisness(sanctioning fees ect) and dealing with wbo than cotto scared to put it up. and i also do belive that when all is said and done the belt will be on the line.

But they're also putting a cap on what Cotto can weigh in the Division he's champion of. Where's the sense in that?

Why was a catchweight put into place? Who does it benefit?

because bro... 145 limits cotto the current champ of his right to fight at 146 or 147 ... the weight he always comes in to win. 145 isnt bad tho because manny is naturally the smaller frame. fair fight in my opinion.
