Why don't more fighters manage and promote themselves?

When I turn pro, I want to manage and promote myself. Of course I will have trainers, but I feel like managers and promoters sort of **** fighters outta their money, since all they are really doing is making a few phone calls and arranging things.

Yet you always see the bigger name fighters promoted, and managed. what's up with this?

Even guys like Cooney had promoters and managers, why did he let them leech off him like that? Without a manager and promoter to pay you get twice as rich.

It isn't like I can't bring my tired ass in from training and call the guy who runs the casino and set things up..what the hell is the problem?

in my eyes, promoters and managers are occupations that require little skill. sort of like a private investigator. 'professional' jagoffs imo.

why do you always post useless one liners? info, having 5k posts and a zillion points won't make you any better, you will still be an undersexed football fan.

look, football is on. quick , go watch it. later.

Being a boxer is hard enough....the distractions of trying to promote/manage yourself could be very dangerous to your career.

When you'e an up & comer you don't have the leverage to get anywhere.
To do so, would be a monumental task& your training would get terribly effected.

It would take less than an hour daily ,though. I don't understand it. I could do stuff like this while my steaks cook.

have there been any champions or contenders who were self managed and promoted?

If you have to pay the purse you will be out whatever amount you are paying your opponent...On top of that there is the venue to pay for, ref to pay, judges to pay, liscencing fees, physicals to pay for...It costs money to make flyers, radio time.....all this **** costs money, your money. You would have to have a lot of tv worthy fighters to make sponsor money to have a chance. Guys like King and Arum aren't so ****ing cutthroat because it is a simple business... Is that better ****er?

Promoting is more than making a few phone calls. I think we'll all agree with the statment "it's not what you know but who you know." Promoters have spent years making contacts and are able to use them to their/their fighter's advantage. Think of the pull Don King has with the casinos and networks. If he wanted to, he could get you a fight with XXXXX (insert name here) on HBO just on his word (if he believed you to be that good).

Promoting takes a lot of time. You will have to constantly be on the phone, manage venue changes, seat prices, VIP entrances, etc. That takes too much time out of the time when you're supposed to be training and the stress level isn't good for your endurance, either.

That is why many fighters have managers they trust (to deal with the promoters) and promoters to make sure you have everything ready so all you have to do is step in the ring.

Just make sure when you sign the contract you don't give away an excessive amount.

so basically you give a guy a 5th or more of your winnings for knowing other people.

                what bull****.

it's just like real estate agents imo..Sure you can look and buy the house yourself, but it's a bigger pain in the ass. whereas if you just hire a real estate agent to do it for you, you get the house easier, but pay the person 3% of the total house price.

Promoting isn't as easy as you think it's more than just a few phones calls. It also takes alot of money and time.
