      Whats the problem?
the obvious problem that few here realized or bothered to mention in this thread is that team pac is worried that if he comes in at 147 he'll be 159-160 by the time he steps in the ring. this is bad for pacman. which ( as if its not obvious already ) means by trying to sign the fight at a lower weight it'll hopefully reduce the overall weight cotto will be by fight night.

pac doesn't belong in WW which is why they made a ( all this has been said to death on the forums) catchweight. we all know pac shouldnt be trying to fight WW's ,but since pac is only aiming for the big $fights and the fights people want to see....there HAS to be a catchweight to make the fight fair otherwise this won't happen.

i can agree to you at certain point that if pac truly wants the belt he should be fighting cotto at 47'.

but how odd will it look if cotto does lose and retains the belt?

it is in the best interest for both parties to have the belt on the line. why?

      promotional tool? = more $

your gonna tell me that because its at 45' one pound less than Cotto's last weigh in that pac doesn't truly deserve this chance for a title shot?

either way this fight is pretty even. you can argue all day who has the advantage but truthfully its pretty much even for the most part.

the fact that cotto agreed and signed to fight pac at 45' says that he acknowledged the fight as being a WW bout.

how can you possibly not have the belt on the line.

you know i'd side with you if this was for the lineal belt, but its not.

You don't seem to care about the rules as long as they suit Packy.

          Typical.

No need to type that much.

If Cotto is not allowed to weigh in at the WW limit, his title should not be on the line.

btw guys i don't care if it's for a title or not but it will be.

it doesn't make sense for this fight not to be.

cotto doesn't want to pay the wbo but he'll either have to or arum will.

putting the title on the line makes it a bigger fight for the casual fans.

Perhaps he's uncomfortable with the weight. But since he was 146 against Clottey, we're talking one fricken pound here, with probably 36 hours to rehydrate it. He knows he's going to outweigh Pac at least 10 pounds in the ring, I don't see the problem here.

"First, the boxing community will be able to witness if Manny Pacquiao can continue to thrive and succeed in his heretofore impossible journey. Starting out at a mere 106 lb., the "Pacman" is vying for Cotto's welterweight belt. For Manny, that represents an astonishing 7th title in his 7th weight class. Among the all-time greats who have ever laced on the boxing gloves, no one in the entire history of the sport has ever attained such a feat (Oscar de la Hoya is the only other fighter to win 6 titles in 6 weight classes). Not Muhammad Ali. Not Rocky Marciano. Not Roberto Duran. Not Jack Dempsey."

I can't say the seventh weight class is a big deal in a boxing world which used to from flyweight at 112 pounds on up to seven other classes including heavyweight. In today's more the merrier world, there are world champs at 106, 108, 112 and 115 pounds before you even get to bantamweight.

Maybe Pacquiao should just not sign, cancel the fight and bring on Mosley for his welterweight title.
