    welterweight 141-147.

I repeat, 147 is not a division. it is a number of the maximum amount of weight u can come in & still QUALIFY as a welterweight bout.

    Just to recap;

147 is not a division, but the weight limit of a division, called welterweight.
yes 141-147 is the full range of Welterweight (technically it's anything over 140 ... as I don't think you can weigh 140.5 for a Junior Welterweight title fight)

but anyway. How many full blown Welterweights fight at 142?

according to your "141-147 is Welterweight" argument, 142 is Welterweight, so how come you don't see Margarito, Cotto, Judah, and Mosley come into the ring at 142?

they can weight that and still be Welterweight, so how come they don't?

    • what happens if the fight is as everybody is anticipating it to be as a great barn burner of a fight?

what happens if it ends up being FOTY candidate worthy?

ebb & flow back & forth each fighter gets knocked down & cotto wins?

      - he didnt get the pacquiao scalp as a welterweight defense
-he loses the belt because the wbo stripped him

the whole catch weight hoopla becomes a moot point.

Flip the script & pacquiao wins but its still a great fight & cotto performs well but still loses?

this whole catchweight is nothing more than mangina leakage & sensationalized pre- emptive insecure rationalization.

its trivial if u look at the overall picture.

the fans, team cotto have to sacrifice 2lbs to make this fight. i think the trade-off is justified.
******, people **** all over Mayweather, a guy who has been outweighed in the ring by 10-20 lbs, the so called "Greater" Pacquiao, wouldn't be able to deal with the same? Be serious now, I don't give 2 ****s man. People are straight trippin.

45 is not a weight class.

If Packy wants to win the WW title Cotto must be allowed to fight anywhere within the WW range.

            Anything else is a fraud.

If Cotto lost it would look bad of course. But if he is forced to put that title on the line without being given the whole scope of the division, Pacquiao's victory is tainted. I think Pac is going to beat him, I just think it should be done fairly. 145 is not the limit no matter how you look at it.

then i suppose its no-win situation for either party...fair enough

I don't mind 45' as long as its just a showcase fight. But if he wants to fight for the title then Cotto must be allowed to make the 47' limit.

45' null and voids the title because Cotto isn't allowed to make the weight he won his title at.

my reply to Jabs fits for your post as well Jay...perhaps this fight shouldn't have been signed since the implications of a belt won thru vacancy would be too tainted

              • Catchweight takes away from bout.

^ yeah but who asked for the catchweight in the first place?

it might not count as a Welter weight defense for Cotto if he wins ... but again Cotto didn't want the fight at 145 .. he only agreed cuz it's the biggest money fight out there for him.

regardless how the fight turns out

be it action packed or boring as ****

if this fight wasn't at a catchweight, the title would be on the lines, no if ands or buts. right?

and this topic wouldn't even exist.

if anyone being forced pac was. arums bonus check makes it evident.

the biggest blunder was not putting the belt up for grabs somewhere along the fine print.
If Cotto signed a contract that said the limit would be 145 and the title would be at stake, he's screwed. I may be wrong, but I think the WBO has final say whether its sanctioned as title fight or not. If there was nothing in the contract yet make it a title fight at 145 it seriously compromises the integrity of the whole organization, as they would be disregarding their own established weight limits.

Like I said, I don't mind the fight at 45' but to force it at 45' and then days later start to say you want the title at stake is garbage.

The Packy team is powertrippin' right now.
