Winky eventually got his big fights though.
In 2004, 2 fights with Mosley, which was the 2nd biggest fight he could get at 154 (behind DLH).
In 2005, he got a fight with Trinidad, the biggest money fight he could get at 160.
In 2006, he got a fight with Taylor, the most significant fight at 160 and probably the biggest money fight of active fighters in that division. Wright turned down the rematch.
Then the next year he got a nice payday in a PPV/Ring 175 lb. title fight with Hopkins.
After that, well Wright wasn't doing himself any favors to prevent being "avoided" since he didn't fight for almost 2 years until facing Paul.
Wright may have been avoided until 2004 but afterwards he wasn't really, he got big fights from there on.
