Miguel Cotto did not speak much to the sports pages, as usual, but he made it clear yesterday that he returns to the gym in August, that there will be, no change in his corner and that the injury he suffered last month is healing well .
Even though his corner received a lot of criticism once right after his fight with Joshua Clottey, the WBO Welter Weight Champ retiterated that his corner will stay intact.
"The corner is still seen as the last contest. The corner was as follows for the last fight, "said the fighter so meager, whose record is 34-1 with 27 nocauts.
Cotto with a 34-1 mark with 27 nocauts, beat Clottey, but suffered a serious cut that required 26 stitches and put him in trouble during the fight. At the conference after the bout, the boxer admitted that the corner has committed several errors. Moreover, he did not rule out the possibility of bringing the trainer Emmanuel Steward.
On the cut he received, Cotto said yesterday that it will heal in a satisfactory manner.
"As everyone can see, my wound scar on the outside. I understand that the inside is still healing and I understand that there should be no problems with it, "he said.
Cotto again denied that it is in talks with Golden Boy Promotions company. He said he is still in negotiations with Top Rank for a possible fight with Manny Pacquiao. "We are in negotiations with Top Rank, the company that represents us. We can not do business with another company, "he said.
"All this is related to the friendly game of golf we had with Oscar de la Hoya a week ago, but was only a friendly game," he said.
Steward is too quick ont he draw when it comes to judgement calls. he also never has anything really good to say about Cotto recently.
I wish nasim richardson trained Cotto. That dude comes into fight night with the best gameplans and trains his fighters like animals. but can you imagine the dialogue? hahaha
I Think Richardson would be a better fit, but Beristain knows Pac a lot better, not that it has helped him much but the fifth or sixth time might be the charm?
I don't think he should get Steward on board. If he had a few fights to get use to Steward then maybe, but jumping in with a new trainer for Pacman is just too risky imho.
