poor negotiations on both sides, one side does not want the fight to happen and the other overestimates their own worth. first of all kelly is the champ at 160 and has two wins over taylor to prove it, he is a marquee name and a PPV attraction. why should he accept 50/50 goosen should have realized this and made a more realistic offer (55-45 imo).

however if kelly was serious about fighting williams he would have countered the offer with his own offer, of 60/40 or 65/35. the fact that he didn't tells me that he doesn't want no part of the punisher. besides he can improve his resume by taking up fights wtith mundine or sturm both of whom are good MW fighters. both would accept a 60/40 split as well and both have some sort of pedigree at the higher weights.

williams for all his multi divisional contention doesn't have that pedigree. i really think he should just concentrate on 154 for now, i admire his ambition but 154 needs a good established champ and williams can clean out the divsion in 3/4 fights if hes smart. if an offer to fight sturm mundine or pavlik does come up and the money is too good to turn down then go for it but for now concentrate on 154.

Or perhaps we are only hearing Goosen's (pwill's) side of the story....

As bad as I want to see this fight is 50/50 and good split. Pav brings fans and is the champ. Paul isn't a Hop or anyone like that yet

I totally disagree with your position about Sturm. The guy is a mediocre fighter at best. He lost his last fight, but got the victory based on politics and corrupt German judging. Winky Wright would beat Sturm easily. And what you fail to mention is that Wright was a hell of a lot more competitive with Hopkins than Pavlik was.

I honestly don't even think Pavlik will do anything meaningful anytime soon. I was pretty stoked on the guy when he first came onto the scene, and still even in the loss to Hopkins thought , as Hopkins put it, would dominate middleweight like he did. But I just don't see that happening anymore, I don't think he actually has it in him. He doesn't know how to handle it himself I think and Bob Arum is screwing his **** up too.+

That makes sense... Pavlik has a slight height advantage, Williams gives up his height, and when have we ever seen Williams fight anyone his own height? We havn't. Pavlik uses his length. Pavlik has more power. Williams is the busier fighter but not by much. Only fight Pavlik wasn't busy was aginst Hopkins... one of the best in the game. It's an intriguing matchup and Iv'e said for months this is the biggest fight at 160 hands down. It will happen. Just not right now. These guys will fight two more times and meet up a year from now.

I think 50-50 is reasonable not outrageous for either side...

You've got a point. Just because Williams is being firm on the initial offer doesn't mean that he can't give in a little bit later. I do think Williams wants this fight more than Pavlik does, even though Williams should receive a little bit less since Pavlik is the champ. A sorry one at that.
