I'd like to see a Hatton vs Valero!

Valero is available, and Hatton needs to redeem himself...

What's hilarious about all of these idiots who initially responded to this thread is that at the TIME of many of the aforementioned fighters devestating losses, they were not considered great either. Hindsight is 20/20 you dumb - ****s.

It's hard to hate on someone if they have greats in their resumes... And most of these guys are uneducated haters of either Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao or both.

i think that there is a obvious and common response in this thread about this article and it is something that overshadows the topic trying to be displayed, and it this............................... the one thing that everyone has picked up on this thread from this article is Hatton is not great............

i find it funny because when i read it, the first thing that came to my mind was that, hatton is not great, and then when i read the rest of the thread, it's all across the board.

i like hatton, i think he has a crowd pleasing style, and is a tough guy with heart, but far from great. his record was a master piece of frank warrens. building it up with guys past their primes or guys not ready yet for that level of fighter. hatton is good, but great is really pushing it, now, if he were to comeback and start winning and beating everyone he fights from here on out and fights the upper crust of fighters, then he can be labeled great, until then, he's a good exciting fighter........

Whoever wrote this is a very mean spirited person playing with the hopes of the poor ******ed Hatton fans just to laugh at them when their hearts are crushed again as soon a Hatton gets KTFO again. All those fighters the writer mentioned had something Ricky never has and that's skill.

Except that he did show something new. His hands were much lower than they usually are. He showed far less head movement than he had in his previous fight against Malignaggi. He showed less lateral movement than he has for a long time, probably ever. He didn't jab at all, and he has a good jab when he uses it. And his punch resistance appears to have gone.

If that were true he would have done so after his Mayweather loss. He got one of the world's best trainers in order to correct his flaws, and instead of trying to correct them, he completely ignored his trainer's game plan against Pacquiao, and did the precise opposite of everything his trainer had asked him to do. If he isn't willing to listen to his trainer in the most important fight of his life, and given that he repeated all the mistakes in the Pacquiao fight that he had made in the Mayweather fight, only more so, he will certainly never change for the better now.

He was once quite a skilful boxer (e.g. in the Tackie fight). But post-Tszyu, he fell in love with his strength, neglected his skills, and he has clearly lost the ability or inclination to get them back. He had the chance to work on getting them back with Floyd Snr, and against Malignaggi he appeared to be moving in the right direction, but against Pac, he fought less intelligently than he has for years, despite having claimed that he'd learnt his lessons from the Mayweather fight. I very much doubt he could beat any of the top 5 Jnr Welterweights any more.

You're being ridiculous. Witter was rated the #1 contender by The Ring for most of Hatton's 3½ year reign. If Witter didn't deserve a shot, no one did.

He didn't give up - as you admitted, it was a very close fight, despite the fact that Witter wasn't at his best that night. And Witter's father had been rushed into hospital with cancer that morning, so it's hardly surprising he didn't perform at his best. Plus, he's always been inconsistent. His performance against Vivian Harris, who was rated highly at that time, was superb.

Football teams regularly lose to inferior teams and no one bats an eyelid. The US recently beat Spain, but no one considers that means that the US football team is better than the Spanish team, or that they'd be favourites if they met again. Yet if a boxer has an off night, people get it way out of proportion - one fight that is very close doesn't prove who is better. And in any case, Bradley has since proved that he's a very good fighter.

Unfortunately for Hatton, he's not great and never was. Break his career down and all he has is one win over Kosta Tzu. Hatton has failed when fighting any other true greats.
