If they never did it or did it and just blew it after maybe one go, wouldn't they then be underachievers?
Well you knew we were off the track when you saw Calzaghe's name on the poll. The guy retired an undefeated champion and multimillionaire. Not exactly the textbook description of an underacheiver.

This question has several layers. I think James Toney clearly could have accomplished more. His talent and natural fighting instincts would have allowed for that. With regard to your average fighter he achieved a monumental amount, but not when you consider his natural talent...his "ceiling".

Going by your description, I'd throw John Mugabi, Mario Martinez, Michael Dokes and Oba Carr out there.

Those are great names you listed.

I just wonder people's definition of achievement because just about every guy in the poll has achieved pretty special things.

It seems like it's taken to be as ALL TIME GREAT versus just mere champion by a lot of people.

I understand your point. But Roy Jones could have fought Michalczewski in Germany and Lewis could have fought Klitschko again. That doesn't make them underachievers IMO.

Naz but come to think of it... you could argue that he overachieve depending on your point of view. But still... cheers to one of the most entertaining guys in boxing.
