Henry Armstrong vs Manny Pacquiao: A DIRECT COMPARISON

Henry Armstrong vs Manny Pacquiao: A Direct Comparison
    by Cinderella_Man of PACLAND

A Direct Comparison of their Lineal Claim.

Henry Armstrong - 3 division title claimant
reigned in as 126 Lineal Champion from 1937-1938 (vacated title)
reigned in as 135 Lineal Champion from 1938-1939
reigned in as 147 Lineal Champion from 1938-1940

*Armstrong 4th Lineal division title quest was denied by Ceferino Garcia, a Filipino middleweight champion and inventor of the Bolo punch, where the fight ended in a ten round draw.

*Armstrong is the only boxer in history who has the distinction of being the only boxer to hold three world championships at the same time (Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight).

    ================================================== ===========

Manny Pacquiao - 4 division title claimant
reigned in as 112 Lineal Champion from 1998-1999
reigned in as 126 Lineal Champion from 2003-2005 (vacated title)
reigned in as 130 Lineal Champion from 2008 (vacated title)
reigned in as 140 Lineal Champion from 2009 (to date)

*Pacquiao is the first and only boxer to win the Lineal championship in four different weight classes.

*Pacquiao is the only boxer in history who has captured Flyweight Lineal championship up to as high as Junior Welterweight Lineal title.

This thread is in response to those people who say that Pacquiao legacy will diminish or even tarnish fighting a welterweight titlist at a catchweight.

They forgot to acknowledge the fact that even the Great Henry Armstrong had failed to accomplished what Pacquiao achieved and that is by winning Lineal championship in 4 different weight classes.

History will not even dare to touch Pacquiao legacy in fighting at welterweight catchweight because it was already written. Fighting and winning more will just add up in Manny Pacquiao's legend.

As I've mentioned in the past, if there were as many weight divisions during the time of Henry Armstrong, then he will probably be a lineal champ in 7 or more divisions.

          There is no comparison.

This is a pretty good point. THat's why it's so hard to compare old school fighters to modern. there're many factors in play.

Pacquiao is a great fighter, and deserves the respect he's been getting as of late because he's earned it with hard work and dedication.

But Armstrong is on another level.

As it's already been pointed out ; if there were as many weight divisions around in Armstrong's time as there is now in Pacquiao's time ; Armstrong would've been a Champion in many more weightclasses than he ended up with.

it'll be hard to top armstrong, but TS is correct that a 145 WW catchweight fight would not in any way diminish pac's legacy.

armstrong didnt get 4 lineal belts because he fought a MW and only wieght 138lbs
there was no catchwieghts, there was no bull****, he just beat the crap out of everyone.

                    150-20-8 (101 ko's)

almost all his losses coming when he was past his prime,
                    he fought to long.
