I will say one thing for Williams: He throws a lot of punches.
That is all.
**** jab, untested chin, sloppy style and average power at welterweight at best.
His height means ****-all because he doesn't use it and his punches make Joe Calzaghe say "Listen, isn't it, he slaps quite a lot at the end of the day doesn't he? Isn't it? Listen."
I think PW has power he just doesn't always put it into his punches. When he does you can tell...and so can his opponents. He staggered Winky pretty bad and completely flattened Quintana. Williams tends to switch speeds and power on his shots--that, to me, is his best trait. Just unpredictable.
Could that first fight not have been an off night. FFs Quintana isn't 1/100th the fighter of Winky Wright, and Williams took him to the cleaners in a fight I thought he would lose.
Can't this argument go both ways Street?
Can't it be said that Q was caught cold...Since he has no history of being KOed like that in the first round?
and Quintana is proabably a better boxer then Winky in this stage of Winky's career...Maybe Winky isn't the same fighter he was a few years back...
and another thing you have to take into account is Williams cutting weight to make 147...This could have also affected his performance...that night and it will only get worse for him trying to make the weight now.
I think Paul Williams at 154 160 is a far better fighter...then the 1 at 147...Paul barley made it out of that fight with Margo if you remember correctly..and then he got his ass whooped by Q....came back and got his rematch and won in impressive fashion...and then vacated...why no rubber match?
I think it's because he knew he was vulnerable at the weight.
