  • The Super Six: How the Tourney Plays With the Titles

By Cliff Rold - With some amusement, the following could be read in today’s wrap piece from the Super Middleweight tournament kick-off press conference. BoxingScene editor Rick Reeno (at http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=20998) noted: [details]

My head hurts after reading that! If this tournament goes as well as it looks and all fights get completed, then there may be some nerves from the heads of these sanctioning bodies. Hey,it may even force them to get their houses in order!

This tourney could have far reaching implications for boxing and at this point its hard to see a down side!

i gave up half way through reading it. Dont really care, I'll find out as the tournament progresses, I'm sure they'll keep us up to date with the relevent stuff as it happens

It's still a bit confusing, but i'm sure it will be simple when it gets going.

I think it is a good idea and will hopefully get to see them all face off against each other at one time or another

I hope this is where boxing ends up. It removes all the "should have fought"s and catch-weights. There's no question of who is the top fighter, there's no paper champs.

It's a huge change, and it would remove some of those really bizarre matchups that are great, but ultimately I feel it would really help the sport.

Guys, no need to speculate. Kessler will take it down and be rightfully crowned king of 168’. Anyone who’ll then think he is still not the best, might reconsider after he beats Bute, Green etc. He’ll probably move up after that.

This is the way it should be, the best around the weight class fighting the best, to bad that Bute is left out. This is a win win situation for all boxing fans.

because theres not as much quality in the HW division and there is already an established champ

the SMW's are a bit of a strange division because they have so many good fighters each holding belts

i love the robin round format as well it means that we the fans get to see more high quality fights between the best. an elimination style tourney does have a bit of extra ****eto it but fans of a certain fighter can turn around and say that their fighter was against a trickier style.

the robin round format gets rid of the 'styles make fights' excuse and pits the best against the best.
