He is a poor man's Archie Moore. The difference being that Moore took on heavyweights while Hopkins took on welterweights. I admit that Hopkins has the greatest welterweight resume of recent times however, look at names like Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Simon Brown...

I'm not being serious. I respect the man and he has proven himself a great. Thankfully he is more critical of himself than his fans and has admitted that he probably doesn't belong above names like Robinson, Hagler and Monzon.

forreal though. someone posted something earlier today about it. but it seems like people automatically think that fighters from the past would completely dominate the fighters around today...not always the case

And hell hes arguably a Top 5 p4pounder at 44 years old...thats nuts..also considering JCC just turned 47 today to put things in perspective.
Depends on standards...other fighters weren't around at 44 because they at 1-200 more fights and against deeper and often better opposition. His Middle reign was longer but was it really more impressive than Monzon's beyond numbers for instance? I think he's somewhere in the top 20-100...anyone can surmise where.

Well Tito proved himself at Jr. Middleweight

But Bernard is definently not in the top 10 ATG...neither is RJJ, Whitaker, or Floyd or Pac...but those last 2 are still fighting elite...

Hopkins never fought a guyw who weighed 147 pounds in the ring..PERIOD.

If a fighter wants to move up and challenge themselves dont blame Hopkins for waxing.

Hopkins moved up to remember and beat the **** out of the 175 Champion.

                      In no particular order:

                      Muhammed Ali
                      Sugar Ray Robinson
                      Roberto Duran
                      Henry Armstrong
                      Sugar Ray Leonard
                      Willy Pep
                      Marvin Hagler
                      Joe Louis
                      Roy Jones Jr.
                      Joe Frazier

That's 10 ahead of Hopkins for me, and there's more I would put as well. The guy has been a tough, crafty veteran who deserves credit for the incredible career he has had, but most his best wins are over smaller guys he was able to fight incredibly dirty against.
