  • Lalia Ali is nothing more than an average amatuer

What is it with womens boxing? What is it that makes the networks believe that we would rather watch a couple of slightly skilled amatuer women, at best, box as professionals rather than a couple of fighters who have taken the time to learn the game in the amatuers and then progressed into the professional game.

I have nothing against womans professional boxing. I do however have a problem when the women fighting as pros having taken no time to learn their skills in the amatuers before being put on t.v to display their lack of actual skill, to me its disgracefull. Sure you could say that Ali displayed skill in defeating the slug infront of her, but it was not the skill of a true professional, it was the skill of an average amatuer.

If you want to see the skill of a true professional take a look at Lucia Rijker. I was down at Kronk and she was working out and quite honestly I was fully impressed with her training ethic, desire and most of all skill. Watch her body and hips twist as he snaps a right hand, she knows how to throw a punch. Watching Ali last night, I was impressed by very little. She had nothing behind her blows. Except for the times that she would slip a shot move to her left and stick a jab, I saw very little trained fighting. That move was good but where is a right hand or any follow up punch for that matter. These moves are some of the first that you will learn as an amatuer, a beginning amatuer, not a pro.

Get these women off of the television and into the gym and the amatuer bouts where they could possibly learn to fight like professionals. In time womens boxing could really be something, in time. But time is something that these woman think is not needed to box as a professional, it most assuredly is needed if your continually going to try and sell it to the public. Watch Lucia Rijker and you'll know what I mean.......Rockin'

Nice post. I saw Lucia on that doc, "Shadow boxers", I believe was the name of it and she was as dedicated and professional as anyone there. More, in most cases. She's fought the toughest mofos in international rules kickboxing which is Muay Thai minus the elbows, even fighting a guy in Muay Thai(got KTFO though) and is a true warrior ... unlike Ali who is a gifted athlete with a marketable mien and moniker.

I think Ali would win because of her athleticism, and the fact that Rijker is past her prime and rusty. Ali's also the bigger fighter and most likely to get ... er, any consideration in a close fight. I'd love to see how Ali reacts from a really heavy blow from Rijker.

I think that womens boxing is right where it should be. Womens boxing is an amatuer sport basically. Men have had years to perfect the sport and are presented with more opportunites than women. Give womens boxing some time and I think the skill level of the athletes will improve. As for Laila shes fought most of the best women around. If she beats ann wolfe and lucia rijker there can be no more talk about how she is a lack luster fighter. She'll have to go down as the best womens boxer.

Have you seen the average female boxer? When I think of beautiful women, I dont think of women boxers. There are a few exeptions, but for the most part they aren't very good looking.

Nonsense. Two women in a fight disgusts me, and I have to break it up. Luckily, I've only had to do this a few times (and only one of these fights were over me, sadly). Only once did I not bother, and it was between a pair of big, fat black women in a Wal Mart on the "Day after Thanksgiving sale" over some article of clothing that was the last one on the shelf.....a man should never get involved in an argument between women at a clothing sale.
