    Roy Jones Return In May!

    From:THE HARTFORD COURANT

"...New manager Roger Levitt said Roy Jones Jr. is interested in fighting Harding, perhaps as soon as May at the Mohegan Sun.

"Jones wants it as a warmup to a [Antonio] Tarver revenge [bout] and Eric would like to give it to him," Levitt said. "I've talked to Jones' people and HBO is very interested."

"Jones, the former undisputed light heavyweight champion, lost his titles to Tarver last May.

Harding dominated Telesco through the first seven rounds.

Then Harding (22-3-1, 7 knockouts) started to lose his zip and Telesco (29-6-1, 24 KOs) smelled opportunity. But Harding's lead was too large to overcome.

Harding, who also returned with a new trainer (Joey Rivera), said he didn't have doubts about taking a tough fight after a prolonged absence.

"I'm one of the best light heavyweights in the world," Harding said. "I don't get anything out of fighting guys with records of 15-25. I want to get back to the top as fast as possible."

Throughout Jones' career, he's depended mostly on his natural talents and his lightning-quick reflexes, without overly worrying about developing conventional ring skills and smarts. When he reached the age where he slowed a little, he got easier to hit, and found that he didn't have what could be called an excellant chin.

If he were to spend 6 months remaking himself as a fighter, getting rid of bad habits and developing good ones, he could dominate again for a couple of years, but if I were him I'd just call it a day and retire.

I completely agree with you about him having to remake himself. He can no longer dance his way around the ring and frustrate opponents with his lightning fast speed. he has to learn how to be more of a boxer puncher. But I dont agree that he should stay retired. He's 35 but he hasnt taken much punishment in his career besides for his last couple of fights. If he can change his style and rely more on his skills than natural talents he can be champion again.

^^^ problems is that he "is" 35 and it is hard for someone who has done what he has done (style wise) for so long to just change it in 6 months...he can change some stuff in the gym...but when you actually get in the ring, the old you begins to come back out...

I think with Jones...it is a matter of confidence...he was losing it in the first Tarver fight...lost it in the rematch...and it was no where to be thought of vs Johnson...

Yeah, young Jones reminds me of an older Ali. He had great reflexes and was quick on his feet like no other fighter of his time. What separates Ali from Jones is that Ali has unbelievable ring smarts and worked to become the talented fighter he was. Jones fights off the natural talent he was born with and the fact that he is quick on his feet. You are right, he does have to remake himself, and It would be nice to see him fight again

              jones is gonna get punked.

he should stay out, he has a nice hbo commentation job, now he's gonna go on to get punked out again and have slurred speech and lose that.

he's going to have ten warmup fights, watch. against european bums like clinton woods.

on the flip side, maybe big george will come back to HBO. hehe.

Yeah, how can he even think about coming back at his age and after two brutal knockouts in a row? I thought was nearly dead when Johnson knocked him out. He needs to stick to **** fighting 24/7 before he seriously gets hurt.
