In their prime? My vote goes to Benn or Eubank. Those guys owned the division back in their day. The division was pretty quality back then, though slightly better now, I think. I'm sure there are other fighters from back in the day whom I haven't seen. Though, RJJ is certainly a contender for that title. Prime RJJ vs Prime Benn would have been a match for the ages.

Exactly people pick and choose according to their preference when they want to rank certain fighters ahead of others. Kessler gets 3 mor names on his resume and all would have more talent and be rated as better opponents then when the SMW division was less stellar.

great that PIG palle is loosing his grasp on kessler.
hope kessler stays stateside and gets some real pros in his corner.

he's got to be rusty from fighting all these lackey tuneups since the calzaghe.

What about Calzaghe's wins at 168 over Kessler, Eubanks, Shieka, Reid and Mitchell? How are you ranking Mafredo over any of these fighters on JC's resume?

I wouldn't be surprised if Kessler DIDN'T take prt in this event - if his agent has anything to do with it.

Listen to what he says at the end: "If it wasn't for my hand injury I would have won".

Ok just because he says so might not make it true. And we don't know if a good hand and better preparations would have made enough of a difference. But his story is that he DID have a hand injury.

                Kessler is boring.

Sad to think he's wasted most of his career, he could be dominating the division by now but instead he remains inactive...

Most of his career? I think you are overreacting. Besides this should change now with the new promoter. Saurland wants him to fight 3-4 times a year they said.

I too think that Kessler is a little boring. Against Sartison he did not try to knock the guy out before the 12th. He could have tried many rounds earlier. That's why I rooted for Joe in their fight UNTIL Joe started to disrepect Mikkel. Then I rooted for Mikkel.

It does annoy me how people rack on about the SMW division suddenly being way deeper, oddly only once Calzaghe's retired. A slight coincidence don't you think. Calzaghe defended numerous of times over years as the #1, and defeated his closest rival in Kessler very clearly. Kessler now is still seen as the #1, yet clearly #2 to Calzaghe. So how he suddenly over takes by beating a load of guys Calzaghe is also seen to beat easily let alone Kessler as he already did, is unreal.

Face it guys, Kessler got well beaten by Calzaghe and he's only the #1, and any guy only has a shot at stealing belts now because Calzaghe's gone. Get that through a little bit, it's not suddenly LOADS deeper, there's just a couple enabled to be at the top as the bars been lowered and there's finally belts going.
