Somebody who is a fan of the sport as a whole, we all have our favorites but real Boxing fans should be a fan of Boxing first... a real Boxing fan is where you like different styles of Boxing, different fighters.
Define true boxing fan please.

If you watch more than just the mega star named fighters you're a real boxing fan.
The people I hate are the ones who but the big PPV of the year lets say Tyson vs Holyfield and talk out their ass about fighters from the past that they saw one or two fights of.
"Mike Tyson fights a lot like Shavers"
"Holyfield reminds me of Ali"
This sort of fan gets on my nerves!
I had a friend who would always mix Buster and Rid**** Bowe up and try to tell me Tyson was overrated because of his loss to Rid**** Bowe! WTFFFFFFFFFFF?Comment

Im sure Tyson would have much rather lost to Big Daddy. Ask your friend if he has the Bowe-Tyson fight because I always wanted to see it.Comment

LOL, I was just thinking about making a thread like this, because you always hear people say "Us real boxing fans blah blah blah."
I think Spacey1991 got it right. "Real" boxing fans follow more than one fighter and would watch it even of their was no recognizable names on the cards, however long they stay watching it depends on how good the fight is LOL.Last edited by CrackYourJaw; 07-05-2009, 06:28 PM.Comment

Yeah i'm sure he would have. lol
Hell yeah it's to bad Bowe went out so fast we missed out on some great match ups.
Nah it's cool, he just saw a few Tyson clips one night and became interested in him but had some mixed up info about him.
He did the same thing with Ali.
It's like trying to explain why Michael Jordan was the best basketball player to a person who has never seen a basketball game.
To them all the players are doing the same thing all of them dunk and dribble they don't see the big picture of why this person is better than that person.Comment

"Fan (person) :
A fan, aficionado, or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a person (usually a celebrity), sporting club, group of persons, company, product, activity, work of art, idea, or trend. Fans of a particular thing or person constitute its fanbase or fandom. They often show their enthusiasm by starting a fan club, holding fan conventions, creating fanzines, writing fan mail, or promoting the object of their interest and attention.
In a few cases, individual fans may become so fascinated with the objects of their infatuation that they become obsessive. These fans engage in behaviors that are considered extreme or abnormal. This includes idolatry or other forms of worship, such as creating a personal shrine dedicated to the idol at one's home, and can sometimes extend to the point of the fans becoming stalkers. In sports, some fans take their enthusiasm for the team to the point of attacking fans of the opposing team (e.g., football hooliganism)..."

It seems that the word `fan`, if described as a `boxing fan`, can make up everything you would ever fear of or loath.
Adding the word `true` may make the meaning even more intense, or may just delineate from the meaning of the word `fan`.Last edited by ThunderWolf; 07-05-2009, 07:32 PM.Comment
