Since this story was publicised earlier today on Germany's biggest tabloid BILD, I got calls from people who you can really call casual fans (with not much knowledge of the sport itself). Everyone is already asking for tickets and are excited as hell.
This tells me that it could make boxing big again for mainstream once again...

Most of the time they get some publicity the week leading up to a fight, even if 2 natives boxers fighting each other.
Klitschko is the only guy who's getting attention all the time, but maybe AA can catch up with him if he does well in this tourney (when it really comes off).
But this is really the first time besides Klitschko that people called me who are just casual viewers of the sport...

Why a gay tournament with points system?
Surely it would be better if these lot just fought each other over a year? Froch vs Kessler, Abraham comes up to super middle to challenge the winner? Dirrel eventually matures to challenge one of them? If there is a lot of talent around one or two weight classes then they should just come to face each other organically not in some fad tournament. E.g: Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Leornard!

this is similar to like the world cup soccer tourny, they pretty much all fight each other, top 4 advance, and then winners meet in the finals, it makes sense to me a one and done scenario wont give us the other matchups we want to see, think about it, if Taylor beats AA in the first round we miss out on all the other fights we'd like to see AA vs Kessler, AA vs Ward AA vs Froch,
i like the way they set up this tournament we end up seeing way better fights

people seem to think taylor has a better chance than i assumed. taylor imo would lose to kess, andrade and AA. imo his problems are well documented and although AA fights at a slow pace you have to remeber that was down at 160. at 168 he will be much more active.
i also love the idea of having points for KO wins and wins, i think it creates an incentive for fighters to be more attacking and look for the KO.
i still can't fathom how this tourney has been made, whoeve set this tourney up deserves a bloody medal!! getting networks, santioning bodies (especially madatories), fighters and promoters (including palle!!) on board is no easy feat.
i got kess in this, hes due some p4p recognition.

I think Dirrell is a decent puncher and he has eliminated the bad taste from everybody's mouth from that Curtis Stevens fight. But even so, he strikes me as a guy who's stamina isn't that good. In the post fight interview of his fight with Oganov his mouth was wide open and he was breathing really hard. Might just be a case of not pacing himself. I think Ward has less power than Dirrell, but he has better stamina. I don't think either one of these guys could beat Froch or Kessler. And this is coming from an American.
