Honestly........I don't think Clottey is a high risk for Williams at all.
Actually, I think that fight would be fairly easy for him when comparing
    their styles.

There would be massive pressure on all of the other top Welters, from HBO and f
rom the boxing public, to fight him, if he beat the #3 Welterweight decisively - which is something that no other fighter has ever been able to do. It's by far Williams best chance of getting a fight against one of
them. At the moment they have no reason to fight him, because they can say he's no longer a Welterweight, and worse still, that
when he was offered a fight against a top Welterweight, he turned it down. The fact is, if he doesn't want to fight Clottey, that will prove beyond any doubt, in most people's minds, whether you like it orWelterweight again.
Keep dreaming dave. All that happened after he beat margs, and none of those big names went for him, what you are saying is pure speculation, all the big ww names want manny and floyd. Even the hbo announcers are constantly trying to say pwill should fight mw or jmw. Larry says he is too big to fight ww (makes no sense).

Williams gets more credit beating Dzinziruk. He has a belt and a better resume than Clottey. Who's best win till date is a past it Judah
Sad but true. Williams has nothing to gain by beating Clottey. Clottey's best win was over a past it Judah as this man said. A win over Clottey would do nothing for Williams, no belt, no fame. Cotto and the rest of the welters would STILL want none of Williams, the real reason is William's size. On the other hand a win over Sergei would not only give him a REAL BELT but also make the cash cows: Froch, Taylor, Abraham, Pavlik, Kessler, Ward, the list goes on and on, legit targets for Williams! The best in the Williams point of view is Sergei. HBO will accept the fight because they are both exciting fighters. Sergei not known in America? Joe Calzaghe got known in a matter of ONE fight and David Haye likewise. Ok those are very charismatic fighters (*******s, depending how you see it) but Sergei has Williams and is not aiming to end his career with a mega fight, he can surely sell Sergei to the USA, specially after Taylor-Froch, no one will underestimate an undefeated European so soon. So Williams is playing his cards RIGHT.

With all that being said, I would like to see a Clottey fight. Goosen is just posturing with all this derogatory talk towards Clottey. It's boxing politics, establishing a position for negotiation.

The new hot division is the "tournament" division, the welterweights are coming to a close, Mayweather is not gonna be around forever and he's not fighting bigger welterweights at this point in his career unless he really has to (that's nearly impossible since everyone and their mothers want a piece of him and he's no fool), Pacquiao likewise, he can fight whoever he wants at which weight class he chooses to. Cotto is damaged and is clearly cashing out vs Pacquiao (his manager recons he will lose the next real fight anyway so Pacquiao is the best to cash out against). Clottey is just good, not good enough though to really beat up other welters and no one is gonna nod to Clottey is he's not scoring KDs or KOs. Margarito is a question mark, i don't know how damaged he is, lets wait till the next fight to see (real fight, Jennings types don't count of course). Quintana is a bit like Clottey, good but will get beat by better fighters (would and has been). Hatton is out (never was really in was he) Mosley is OLD. The cicle is coming to an end. The Jr middleweight and middleweight divisions are the near future for boxing. Williams knows it.

He's already done that dave. It got him nowhere. He claims he will fight any division within reach, not just ww, please get your story straight, it's not like he's ducking a challenge to fight someone who is past his prime, coming up 2 divisions, or a paper champion.

Clottey can't beat Williams. Too lil work rate and not enough power.
                    Paul would eat him alive.

Good for Paul, who seems to continually take on the tough opposition. Would love to see him against Dzinziruk as I have not caught any of his fights and have heard many good things about him. I'm not sure what the hype is for Clottey-Williams. Mark my words, Clottey would be looking for an early exit in that one. Look for him to injure his hands, ankles, everything en route to asking his way out of the fight.
