Dimitrenko vs Chambers: The Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - The most famous July 4th Heavyweight contest ever took place almost a century ago. Motivated by racist silliness, white America antagonized and cajoled undefeated former champion Jim Jeffries out of retirement to face down the specter of a the division’s first black champion, Jack Johnson. After much ballyhoo, the attention of the nation turned to the Nevada desert for one of the most anticipated clashes in the history of the sport.

Nothing like it will be taking place this weekend.

The only common ground the latest Heavyweight showdown will share with Johnson’s decimation of Jeffries is the centerpiece of the weekend won’t be televised live in the U.S.

There was of course no television in 1910 so it’s shaky ground indeed.

Love, hate, or ignore them, one thing which can be said of the current Heavyweight top ten types is they fight each other with regularity. While too many of the fights in recent years have disappointed, lacking in compelling drama, the essence of competition is for the best available to face each other. [details]

Nice to see Chambers come in in shape for once. If he fights the whole fight like he did the first 4 rounds or so against Povetkin, he can win.

          not a pipe dream.
eddie frustrates this euroslug with his slipping and sliding and bitchslaps this kid around so bad that the judges give it to him.

I agree with this, his speed will also do a lot of damage; especially with the jab. The big problem I see is that unlike most of the heavyweights, Dimitrenko goes to the body and he has a 40 pound weight advantage that he will use.

Well the fight is in Germany and Chambers has little power. Unless Chambers can make this a one sided schooling, he has no chance to win. If the fight is close at all then Dimitrenko wins by UD...

I can't imagine how you think Chambers will out jab Sasha
and i also think Eddie will have a hard time avoiding the jab if he plans to use his bend back from the waist style, even bending back he'll still be in range i think. If he uses that same approach Dimitrenko will pound his body. He better be prepared to use his feet and slip/parry instead of bending back.

                  War Sasha

208? Wow! He's got himself in great shape.I've never seen dimitrenko fight so I'm not going to comment on him other than his biggest win is vs krasniqi.chambers is by far his toughest test.from what I understand dimitrenko has been knocked down by inferior opposition.I'm not sure if that's the case,it's what I was told.I believe at 208 chambers will be very hard to hit cleanly so I'm going with him to win a 12 round decision.it's vitali vs Byrd over again(minus the quitting thou).David vs Goliath.my prediction has little credibility because of my lack of knowledge of dimitrenko.it's either his coming out party or his total demise from contender status.all the pressure is on dimitrenko.can he handle it? We will see.chambers has been the only contender to actually fight other contenders.Brock,guinn,peters,povetkin.he was never in great shape but now he is.he's another Byrd but orthodox.
