I can note specifically the 11th or 12th round of Jones-Ruiz when Merchant called Ruiz a paper champ and basically started discrediting him. George said something to the effect of, "Don't build a fighter up in the pre fight hype and then try to discredit the other guy by dissing the opponent." That was a tense moment.

I remember George having little discreet arguments with Lampley about how Floyd Mayweather's game plan against Corrales during the fight.

The tension was obvious, and now I have an idea as to why it was there. Thanks for this.

I remember George berating Merchant for saying he was surprised after Sanders KO'd Wladimir. Of course George wasn't exactly getting on Corrie's bandwagon before the fight himself.

i always thought of george's technical analysis as witch doctor voodoo mumbo jumbo. he'd say **** where i be like does he actually know that? or did he just make that up now.

He almost makes Lennox look competent

Lennox is the worst announcer I can remember. He offers nothing to the broadcast, says the same thing every fight, and it's usually stating the obvious. Horrible announcer.

I've always liked Lennox, but every word of this is true. He hasn't improved at all.

Yeah, it was the Tito/B-Hop fight. Absolutely terrible. He had lost every single round, was looking like a completely beaten fighter and was on wobbly legs, whereas Hopkins was gunning it, throwing combos all over the shop and still George was going on and on "Ohhhh, you jus caan' give up on this guy na. Ee's got 'im right where ee wants 'im"

Would have been like saying at the end of Lacy/Calzaghe "This Calzaghe has got to be careful. He just don' know the power of this guy and he's settin' up for big shot. Ohhhh I can see it"

Good find. I always wondered why Foreman was fired, they always said that it was because he needed to spend time w/ all his George's. Foreman was the man because he wouldn't let them descredit any fighter and had great insight as a former champion.

Does anyone has the video of the non-edited AND edited version ?

Can't say that I have, however I have seen edited and unedited versions of Barrera-Hamed. In the original, Foreman and Lampley argue over Hamed's religious comments, and whether or not the result is a sign that Allah wanted Hamed to lose. In the edited version, the discussion is removed and there is no commentary for 20 seconds or so.

So yeah...I've no doubt that HBO would cut something out for the rebroadcast if they felt it was potentially controversial.

Foreman is always going to have a punchers mentality. Looking at his fight w/ Ali up until he got knocked out he thought he was going to catch Ali slippin'.
