Patterson's problem was that he himself was no more than light heavyweight, taking on 200+ lbs opponents. Anyone who has seen his fights against Ali knows that he could take it on the chin fairly well.

Archie Moore and Yvon Durelle were big light heavyweight punchers but Patterson walked through them.

Johansson was not one of the greatest champions but he could punch. Eddie Machen had a tested chin yet Johasson knocked him out in just one round.

Norris took on a past prime welterweight moving up, got knocked down by a jab and knocked a few rounds later. His chin was "Terrible".

Hearns seemed surpisingly durable at 175 lbs against Virgil Hill and Iran Barkley (the second time).

    ali wasn't a heavy puncher.

besides yes patterson was barely 185 or so in most of his fights but a lot of his opponents were in the 190-195 range as well.

Patterson actually trained to add weight while most heavyweights trained to go down in weight.

Here's a middleweight fight of his, a year later he won the heavyweight title:

it doesn't change the fact that most of his heavyweight opponents were not that much bigger.

if floyd was around 180 , most of his opponents were around 190.

it wasn't 'til the liston era that most heavies started becoming 210 or higher.

Felix Tito Trinidad was down on a bunch of fights only to come back and KO the **** out of his opponents, I still remember everytime he was down his father will slap him a couple of times and after that he was going in for the kill..

                he was never hurt though.

tito just had bad balance at the beginning and it took for him a few minutes to get warmed up.

I dont know why some people claim Norris had such an awful chin, his chin was not good but it was no where near as bad as people make out.

Norris was a Boxer, but he was a gunslinger at heart and he was renowned for going toe to toe and ****ing it out with his opponents.

Don Curry was pretty good puncher (Milton McCrory) and he never shook Norris up, and they went at it in the centre of the ring for a large portion of the fight.

John Mugabi did not last very long but he did not hurt Norris.

You saw what Castro did to J D Jackson, he did not hurt Norris.

An old Ray Leonard, but still a puncher, could not hurt him either.

Norris walked straight onto that jab and it was **** on the chin when he was advancing foward, he was hardly wobbling about like Mickey Ward against Gatti 2 was he ?

Clottey got dropped with a jab.

Herbie Hide was stiffened by jab from Vitali.

Dokes was destroyed by an up jab.

Nigel Benn was KTFO by a jab.

Exactly, i think Cooper was around 168lbs or maybe a little heavier when he fought Clay/Ali.
