Abraham Aces Oral Exam, Awaits Finals With Pavlik

By Jake Donovan - If lineal middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik represents the final exam for current alphabet titlist Arthur Abraham, then consider Saturday’s title defense the Oral portion of this subject, one he aced with flying colors.

Five knockdowns paved the way for Abraham to make the 10th defense of one of the longest active title reigns in the sport as the transplanted Armenian scored a 10th round knockout of former sparring partner Mahir Oral on Saturday at Max Schmelling Halle in Berlin, Germany. [details]

The fight will happen this year. Im pretty sure team Pavlik has had enough of Arum. He knows to make the fight or lose a fighter. I just hope HBO can come up with the money, I would hate to see this on PPV.

Pavlik is looking like a punk for not fighting Arthur, but by the same token Abraham doesn't have the right approach. He needs to fight better opposition. I heard Karmazin wanted to fight Abraham, and that would've been a whole lot more competitive than a fight with Oral.

After watching last night, I honestly think Pavlik would abuse him. Oral was a complete stiff (as was Mora for Pavlik) and if he lets Pavlik pound on that peekaboo defense some of those right hands will sting. He does have the power to hurt Pavlik but he would give Pavlik endless time to do his "resets" that set up his punching rythym. (The same "resets" that Hopkins so brilliantly disrupted.) I think he is Taylor made for Pavlik. Pavlik always beats inactive sluggers, or sluggers period for that matter. It's those that can counter over his big right that trouble him. Strum will be a much tougher for fight for him than AA. - Though to be fair, I haven't seem Strum fight in years. He might be a stiff by now too.

Pavlik/Abraham is the best fight that can be made at MW and if it doesn't happen really soon AA will just move to the SMW division and Pavlik will look like he was ducking AA.

If he cannot make a fight with Pavlik, he should move up.

No more fights against C-level opposition.
