I think Hopkins still maintains that Antwan Echols is the person to hit him the hardest.
Who has hit Hopkins with the hardest punch?

In my opinion, some may not agree but Taylor's bad stamina is more due to him putting too much commitment towards his punches.Taylor definitely deserves a plug, as well.
He's not the hardest hitter in the world, but when he throws with intention, he has a bit of pop on them.
Trinidad for the (very) few left hooks he was able to land on Hopkins in their fight.
Tarver didn't land much, but he did land 1 or 2 clean shots that looked pretty hard, and he was the bigger man.
Taylor, also, as I said ; deserves a mention.
Any of those guys would get my vote.Comment

I don't agree with that one man, at all.
Mercado wasn't a wrecking ball puncher or anything, he wan't known for his pop. He had some KO's but he wasn't a harder hitter than Taylor or Tito, IMO.
I think the elevation, and Hopkins lack of mental focus had more to do with those KD's than anything.
You can't exactly focus on fighting a man (in a bull ring, no less), when you've got armed lunatics storming into your locker room prior to the fight because the Country is in a civil war.Comment

That was definitely a hard punch from Joe.
He normally slaps with his shots because of his hands, but make no mistake ; that was a nasty punch.
Hopkins has a very underrated chin, IMO.
People don't talk about it much because the way he fights, he rarely gets hit.
Which makes sense, really.
I'd rather avoid getting hit completely, than risk it just to prove how solid my chin is.
But when his chin has been tested in the past, he's shown great punch resistance.Comment

Your right, from what I remember, armed soilders were kicking down doors and B-Hop felt had he gotten the win, he wouldn't have been able to leave the place alive. I'm sure that and the altitude had alot to do with his performance, reason why I mention Mercado is because B-Hop seemed a little hurt, never seen anyone else hurt him.I don't agree with that one man, at all.

Note: When your fighting in the other guy's backyard, get K.D twice and get a draw...you know you won that fight.Last edited by Doctor_Tenma; 06-27-2009, 08:08 PM.Comment

Mercado and the results speak for thereself. We can talk about the altitude amd things of that nature but the truth is Hopkins still finished VERY strong that fight after getting dropped the 2nd time. Personally I thought Hopkins eeked it out.Comment

I didn't think to mention him, I guess because me and bringer think alike and do not think Mercado is a massive puncher but more it was Bhop still young in his career and made some mistakes and just got off-balance. Idk, let me google some pictures of that fight if they exist and see if any still pics can tell a story.Comment
