Margarito was like the Vivian Harris of 147, He had the WBO belt but people like Spinks,Judah etc were too famous to risk fighting him unless he was a mandatory... Arum did a terrible job of promoting him at the time because he had other fights in his stable like Morales,Mayweather,Cotto..

It was only when Mayweather was about to leave that Arum came up with the "$8 million" offer, Am sure HBO didnt put down $8 million for a Mayweather/Margarito fight at that time, HBO were more interested in a Mayweather/Judah/spinks/Mosley/de la hoya fight.

He wouldn't have won. You know I like Mayweather too. He wouldn't have won. Its an incredibly bad match up. 1600-1800 punches for a 12rnd fight, a chin of granite, a body of steel, a constant pressure like none other. Not to mention 4 inches taller and a much larger reach.

Mayweather wouldn't have won. He knew it himself, he knew that he wouldn't even been relevant in the fight. So he avoided it.

If Arum said 8 Million for Cotto. Mayweather would have jumped all over it.

Are you a Hatton fan? Only a Hatton fan or UK homer would say something like that.

How did the WBO belt stop Mayorga-Margarito?

Marg woulda gave Mr boat buyer hell, but I don't see him takin any more than maybe 4 rds. He might have a punchers chance, but I wouldn't count on that homey. I think Mr boat buyer woulda UD'd Marg, but he woulda had to work hard and take risk to do so, hence his refusal to man up.

                OK now

                You just stop it.

Stop making sense up in this mofo.

Tony's PPV bout against Manuel Gomez sold a WHOPPING 3,000 buys.

HBO would have laffed Tony's broke ass out of the US.

Let's not forget Margarito was fighting on HBO back in 2002. And that HBO was pushing for Margarito-Mayorga, ****, Margarito versus anybody. Other welters just weren't interested.

And it's a little ridiculous to act like nobody had ever heard of him back then. That's BS. Maybe a lot of you guys weren't really following the sport then but, like I said, Margarito had fought on HBO several times before 2004 and umm, headlined an ESPN PPV where Shane Mosley was on...the undercard.

Boxing fans always knew who he was. The point I was trying to make is that at that time there was demand for different types of fights. People love the Brian K interview were he bashes Floyd for fighting Zab and not Baldomir. At that time certain fights made more sense in the moment than they do trying to look back at the past knowing what we know now. Your right that fans knew who Tony was but as far as big fights go to many he was unknown. I'm a big Joshua Clottey fan however when he fought Cotto many casual fans that I'm friends with knew little or nothing about him even though hes been on HBO and Showtime. Everybody on this message board is well aware of who he is obviously(at least I hope so).

mitruth, you're my man 25 grand but if you think there was more demand for Mayorga-Spinks or Judah-Pineda than Margarito you're bugging.

Tony is too wide...slow..and predictable...to give Floyd anything but a clear runway down the middle to land everything he wanted.

If Tony were good enought to give Floyd hell he would have given Shane's elderly ass a run for his money.

DAVID ESTRADA gave Mosley more trouble than Tony...lol
