LOL. This subject has been beaten to death. And I think people like to focus on whether Floyd avoided Margarito (he certainly wasn't inclined to fight him) but Floyd only became a welter in 2006. The more damning issue for me was how every other welter from 02-07 didn't want to fight him either.

He had a belt yes. But at that time he was no way on the radar for a big fight. He reached big fight a bit later. Right before or after the Marg-Cotto fight I could understand. But the time period your talking about Marg was fairly unknown by many. People tend to werite history when it comes to this.

Margarito's fan base at the time was much larger than Hatton and Cottos. You cannot compare the entire country of Mexico plus the West Coast and SouthWest USA to some islands.

You can hate Marg but dont get **** twisted.

Nobody wants a WBO crap strap.

          Your question should be

Why didn't Tony dump that thing and toss his hat in with the big boys.?

                LOL

Yeah, nobody wants a WBO strap...but they'll take good money!

Let's not forget Margarito was fighting on HBO back in 2002. And that HBO was pushing for Margarito-Mayorga, ****, Margarito versus anybody. Other welters just weren't interested.

And it's a little ridiculous to act like nobody had ever heard of him back then. That's BS. Maybe a lot of you guys weren't really following the sport then but, like I said, Margarito had fought on HBO several times before 2004 and umm, headlined an ESPN PPV where Shane Mosley was on...the undercard.
