its a damn shame for british boxing fans
setanta doesn't provide as much coverage of british fighters as itv but it did bring the best fights from abroad as well as big domestic fights with calzaghe, hopkins, kessler, haye, and from abroad the likes of williams, cotto, SSM, mayorga, clottey, chad dawson, tarver, ivan calderon, juan diaz etcComment

Surprisingly just heard about this and is has pissed me right off... Setanta had loads of Boxing over hear in the UK and shown a lot of the big fights... I mean some bigger ones I had to get PPV like Hatton fights and the Mayweather fight would have been but I didn't mind about that... Setanta shown Hopkins fights, Cotto, Margarito, Calzaghe, Haye, etc. and it was great to be able to see these fights. I don't have a subscription to Sky so even if they take a few of there fights I might not have chance to see them unless some kinda package deal comes along (****** Media might take advantage of it).
Worst thing is, now because of these big fights may no longer be shown as often I might have to watch more streams... which I prefer to be a last resort.

they would have to team up with the promoters to do that. HBO and Showtime only buy the rights from the promoters to show cards in the US and so would have to pay more to get overseas rights. they dont own the cards.
Top Rank do coverage for their own cards, so they could do PPV streams to other countries if no one picks up their contract that setanta dropped.Comment

thanks!Setanta Sports ceased its trading in the UK yesterday, after a disastrous business plan saw them over-bid for UK and Scottish football rights. Setanta’s channels went off in the UK yesterday afternoon, leaving boxing fans in the dark as to what will become of our sport.

was wondering what it all was about.
you poor guys.
you mean your internet goes down at midnight?

Wow...this is horrible. Setanta has been a big part in the sport of boxing in general not just the UK. They have contributed to a couple of Fight Of The Year candidates, Froch vs Pascal being their most recent one.
I hope everything goes well for UK boxing because their are obviously a lot of talented fighters over there and they have been a big part of keeping the Heavyweight Division somewhat alive. Along with producing guys like Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, David Haye, Carl Froch etc...
Hopefully Sky Sports shifts to another gear and becomes more boxing affiliated to make up for Setanta's presence not being in UK boxing anymore.Comment

Sky Sports or ITV will definitely pick up boxing, especially now they don't have Setanta to bid against. I just hope its sooner rather than later.Comment

I will really miss that channel, they were the most diverse sports network to ever broadcast in the UK, they covered everything.
What do you get with Sky ? Football, football and more football.
Oh and if they mention any other sports its only ones they hold the rights to.
Biased ****s.
I hope to *** Sky doesn't by up all the boxing left behind by Setanta, I would rather use streams than have to deal with them.
Hopefully a whole new Channel by another network is formed.Last edited by The RealDeal; 06-25-2009, 05:34 AM.Comment

Couldn't be more pissed off about this. I loved being able to tune in at 4 in the morning and see fights like Darchinyan-Arce on the big screen. Big downer.Comment
