Hugo Hernan Garay Was Weight Drained For Campillo

Word from Argentina is that the now former WBA light heavyweight champ Hugo Hernan Garay had to lose 25 kilo in 25 days before defending the title against Spaniard Gabriel Campillo, a huge underdog. After round five the normally strong, non-stop punching Garay had nothing left and ended up losing a majority decision. No disrespect to Campillo, a good, clever boxer, who previously held the EU title at super middleweight but he´s not likely to remain champ for long. Garay had a promotional deal with Universum in Germany - no word if there are any options on Campillo. [details]

55 pounds in 25 days. There are a lot of people willing to pay a lot of money for those weight loss secrets.

Wow, I didn't even know he lost the title or even had a fight recently. That's probably the last we're going to hear from him at light heavy.

Unless there are details that I'm unaware of, then I don't have any sympathy for him. If he's been following the James Toney diet then it's his own fault he lost.

Why do so many boxers lose to the fridge recently?

Saw the fight and there was clearly something wrong because Garay can usually go full-speed throwing punches for 12 rounds without wearing out and he looked tired after a few rounds. Totally ****** to blow a title like that. Campillo will only hold the title until Universum forces him to come to Germany to lose to their favorite son, Juergen Braehmer. Garay beat Braehmer pretty convincingly in Germany last fall, but there is no way Campillo will leave Germany with the belt this time

Well this makes Vyacheslav Uzelkov and Murat's undefeated record look better now. Hopefully one of them can get a rematch with Campillo. Campillo might also want to cash out since even he knows he wont hold that belt for long so he might be willing to unify with one of the other champs.

HHG might have had a rematch clause aswell since this wasn't a mando (Well I hope not anyway lol) but if not hes going to have a long way back to the top.

Will be interesting if Garay didn't have a rematch clause considering that he has a promotional contract with Universum and Universum made sure Sturm had one when he got KO'd by Castillejo in 2006. Of course, Sturm is a favorite in Germany and the Argentine Garay isn't. Either way, Universum will make sure Campillo fights Braehmer next
