  • Pacquiao-Cotto Catchweight: My 2 Cents

a lot of you are bitching about this fight being held at anything less than 147 lbs. thinking that a few pounds would definitely determine the outcome of this fight. saying that roach is trying to drain cotto to give his guy the advantage, like he did de la hoya.

well first off, de la hoya set the weight at 147, not pacquiao. pac's team did not negotiate the weight at all. don't know why pac's team getting ripped for it. since that fight, people became obsessed with this weight drained thing. all of a sudden it is the only thing that determines a fight. its true that de la hoya could have performed better at a higher weight, but pac gets no credit for that win when in the first place, he did not set the weight, was coming up two divisions where delahoya was going down 1/2 a division, was supposed to get killed, and ends up making de la hoya quit. i guess the explanation there is a lot of people made bold predictions that oscar would win no matter what, and won't admit they are wrong. just make excuses why they are wrong. its easy now to say "hey, pacquiao is a ***** cause he didnt fight de la hoya at 154". it would make pacquiao climb up three divisions, and the fight was already a farce at 147.

now comes the cotto fight. people now thinks weight is the only thing that matters. to me 1-2 pounds ain't winning this fight. roach may think so, pac's camp may think so, scared cotto fans may think so, i don't. this weight drained thing is blown way out of proportion following the delahoya fight.

don't get me wrong. i think if pac wants cotto, it should be at 147 pounds. nothing less. but put yourself in roach's position here. cotto would outweigh pac by 15 pounds if the limit was 147. is it such a ***** move wanting the weight difference to be less, say 10 pounds by adding certain restrictions? i think its pretty reasonable in pac's part to ask for 143-144-145 limit.

a fight at catchweight does not guarantee a pacquiao victory, and a fight at 147 doesnt guarantee a cotto win either.

its unfair to pacquiao if he is made to move up another division when he has been in different divisions his last four fights. contrary to popular belief, its not easy to do. but cotto is the best fight for him now aside from marquez. roach wanting this fight at a catchweight is not to give pacquiao an advantage, its to give cotto less of an advantage. call it a ***** move but its pretty reasonable if you ask me.

basically, what im trying to say is:
    1. pac deserves credit for the de la hoya fight
    2. a lot of you are over-****ing-reacting at the weigh this fight is in.

I totally agree, Pac Man is not getting credit for beating DLH, I thought DLH was going to knock Pacman out to be honest, I also think that Pac Man should be fighting at 147 I think he can give any of the top guys a run for there money he sure has the power, just look at what he did to Hatton, and he was making DLH back pedal, it showed how strong Pac really is. I dont know why Roach is being so cautious.

the main point is that EVERYONE knows that cotto had problems doing the 140 so what roach trying to do is f@cked. cotto already said that he's willing to go down to 145.

why roach is afraid of the weight if they already fight there?

Agree with the OP. People have been hearing about catchweights so much that they think its become reality. Truth is pacquiao hasn't built his career on fighting at catchweights, and weight draining fighters, some people just blow it out of proportion others never give pacquiao credit for anything. But just so I can fit in:

Dude i'm so sick of all this catchweight BS!!!!111!!!!1!!1!!

this fight should be at 147 if its for the belt.

roach may be hoping for a weight drained cotto. or wants the weight difference to be less to give his a guy a better chance...

either way, the weight doesnt play that much of a factor than what people make it out to be...

like the de la hoya fight. i give pacquiao full credit for that fight. weight is a trivial factor. i think pac beats de la hoya no matter what weight. that's just me.

before the weight drained fad caught on, pacquiao was fighting old men. and by old, they meant 30 yr old p4p ers....

Hopefully the fad wears off soon, everyone bitching about it is getting annoying.

yeah. i know there are plenty of threads about this but want to get my thoughts through.

i agree. if its up to me, pacquiao would get marquez. cotto would get mosley. but my OP shows my opinions if the cotto fight pushes through.
