  • Mayweather Jr.'s antics have finally been played out.

Is it me, or has the general boxing public finally gotten over once bad-boy Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

Everyone knows the story; announces return, signs contract to fight Juan Manuel Marquez and keeps everyone on their toes.

    Pause.

Tickets go on sale and supposedly only 3,000 tickets sell. If you didn't know, the MGM Grand Garden Arena has a little over 17,000 seats. Do a little math and you have 14,000 seats left over.

    What the hell?

    I have a few theories as to why a fight as big as this was not sold out or damn near close;

Mayweather has taken his success for granted; ****ily thinking he is a household name, still after his retirement, even placing himself above Oscar De La Hoya in PPV buys.
    • Because of his hiatus, it has given way for other fighters such as Manny Pacquiao to easily take his place as the number one fighter, giving us three exciting fights while Mayweather spent his time throwing money around.

What happened to the biggest draw in boxing? Don't get me wrong, we shouldn't put this all on Mayweather Jr., because as of now I think we can all agree that Juan Manuel Marquez is the face of Mexican boxing, but then again don't take Mexican boxing fans for granted, they could see this as a slaughter and not bother with attending the fight. 50/50 for who the bigger draw is.

How can he save his "name" and preserve this supposed legacy of his? Pull a fake injury.
    • The general public sees this fight as a mismatch; JMM too small, Mayweather once again cherry picking smaller opponents.

    - Mayweather comes from as low as the super feather weight division, he just moved up sooner.
    - JMM has had NO fights above 140lbs, thus throwing himself in the lions den, risking it all for a shot at Money May.

To be clear on the subject, I enjoy watching both fighters respectively, because of their craft in this sweet science, but I'm sure many have probably already come to this conclusion; Mayweather has lost his luster and now must work his way back up.

Mayweather needs to face the verdict, he is now a welterweight and should fight legitimate welterweights such as Shane Mosley or Miguel Cotto.

Yeah that's true, but think about it, he's already bigger than him physically, and to come at JMM verbally for a mental game, that's doing too much. So I guess you can say he limits himself, but again I think people aren't taking the bait on this one.

if he would have just come back quietly and let his boxing do his talking it would have been more beneficial IMO.... prove that he doesnt have ring rust and that he's serious about fighting and can comeback w/o getting injured...

just shut ur mouth and do your job... then after a good comeback fight, he can go back to his antics

At first I didn't mind Floyd, because he has not shown that he was ducking anyone.
              It is quite apparent now.

Well I was weary at first as well, but sources point to Steve Kim and from the past, he hasn't given any wrong information, at least from what I know of.

Sorry, I didn't read anything you wrote, but I agree with the title of the topic 100%.

Now I know I will catch some heat for this, but imho, Floyd should have stayed retired. I would have had alot more respect for him then. Many of the Floyd fans knew, and know the JMM fight is a joke!!! Tune up or not, but they support anything he does, and says.

Boxing has moved on from Floyd...Belive it or not! Floyds game is played. Just because he was talked about when he was retired(mostly by his fanatics and haters) doesn't mean anything. Boxing got back to basics when Floyd was gone.

Anyway, he should have stayed retired.

On A Side Note: Did any of you cats see the 24/7 preview after the fight? That **** right there made me sick!!!!

Everytime Floyd was on the screen it was, money this, money that, I'm ppv this, i'm ppv that...I had to turn the channel. How anybody(besides a teen) can listen to that is beyond me.

                    Lets be honest
Mosley-Margarito tickets wee sold for $25 each
Dawson-Tarver tickets weres sold for $5 each and they fought in a nightclub
Cotto-Clottey went for $25,some $50 and $100 and it didnt sell out.
Mayweather's tickets are going for $1000 and a few cheaper once.We cant underestimate the recession and also the opponent.Mayweather has to play the bad guy to sell but he cant play the bad guy against Marquez even though Marquez is the pound for pound number 2.Mayweather is expected to win and few people will pay so much so fast to watch the fight.Lets not forget the fight was still a month away and with more promotion i would sell out
