When Oscar De La Hoya fought a little man in Manny Pacquiao, the fight sold out pretty quickly even do most boxing people were saying it was a mismatch. Mayweather and De La Hoya are both in the same situation, both fighting little men and at the time most boxing people are calling mismtach.

But here the difference, when De La Hoya fought his little man, his fight sold out and got over a million PPV buys. Mayweather fights his little man, and rumours circulate that is has done only 3 thousand tickets sale, and virtually all boxing people say it won do huge box office numbers, like Manny and Oscar.

It makes me laugh when Mayweather says he is the bigger draw than De La Hoya.
All of this is 100 percent truth, but my one beef with mayweather isnt really any of this. The one problem i had with him was what he would say about ATG and their losses as they declined. Floyd himself is now on the decline, floyds true greatness should show up within the next 2 years if hes really among them or below them. Of all the nonsense, all of the "ducking" or whatever, most of that didint effect me that much, but i have been waiting to see a past his prime floyd mayweather against other top fighters, even the marquez fight is a gauge to this despite the uproar on the board, because its a fight that tells us all where he is mentally and physically. How much hes learned in the ring is going to show up at this point. Thats why god help pac when he leaves his prime because again, when pac leaves his prime is when his true greatness will show up, i think its been like this for every ATG like ali, robinson, whitaker, duran (especially against barkley) etc.

But yes, him being a bigger draw than de la hoya is nonsense, but i will say this, no matter who you are, cotto, pac, or mayweather, you need a good b-side in order to draw in a good buzz for your right. The difference is that mayweather doesnt have some huge cultural ethnic fanbase he can fallback on, he never had that and never will, those guys do, so its even more important for him to attract matchups that create buzz. This one didint do so, its unfortunate for him, but the one i feel most sorry for is JMM.

The problem with this fight was coming back and trying to sell Floyd into a PPV "super fight"

It is just the buying public have short memories. Floyd is a good draw, but he needs momentum again. People also want to see him in a risky fight.

I mean I normally don't make excuses for Floyd, as he dug this hole himself. Goldenboy should share the blame though. They went along with this ****** plan. Floyd should have taken a normal HBO fight against someone like Berto to rekindle the public's memory. Trying to jump back into PPV's is just silly.

It is all about greed. They all should have known his stock would be lowered.

the thing GBP screwed up on was offering mosley for 8mil, then offering like 12-14 mil for a marquez fight, that just puzzled me.

Which makes me FURTHER believe that more people pay to see Floyd lose than to actually watch him fight. Whether thats something to be proud of is up to Floyd himself.
Not only that but he's been retired for two years, you would think his loyal fans would be trampling each other to see him fight.
