UFC 100 is happening a week before the original date of July 18th. People would have spent all their money in Vegas during the weekend of the UFC event. Most people would likely spend their allotted PPV money on the UFC event.

The new date: September 19th. Mexican Independence Day weekend (Sept 16th is the actual date). Marquez fans will surely fork out the cash on this date. PPV sales will be pretty damn good for the fight around September 16th thanks to Marquez. But I'm sure Gayweather will claim the numbers saying he's Mr PPV, LMAO.

Perhaps the July 18 clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez wasn't so highly anticipated after all. Sources close to the

Like I said what if Floyd need 6 weeks for the injury to heal, then he would most likely want another 6 to train for the fight. Even if it was 4 weeks he needed to rest it would still make sence to push it back that far just to wait until the 19th (that is a classic PPV date).

Also if Floyd was faking the injury, I assume he will get caught on tape (or just in pctures) doing something he should not be able to do with a real injury because Floyd just is not that smart (a lot smarter people have been caught on similar scams).

I hope it is not that serious though, but if it is a rib cartalage injury those are no joke.

Floyd does not need 12 weeks to be ready to fight Marquez...

We don't even know how bad it is. Hopefully it's around the 8th or the 15th. No way should it be the 19th of September.

I think the more realistic theory is, Mayweather is going to ditch the fight with Marquez and go straight for Pacquiao. Similar to how Pavlik ditched Mora and now is going for Sturm or Abraham.

ORLANDO -- Floyd Mayweather's highly anticipated return to boxing will have to wait a little while longer. On Sunday Mayweather announced that he would be postponing his July 18 welterweight showdown with Juan Manuel Marquez after suffering a rib injury in training camp.

"I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed," said Mayweather. "I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring on July 18th."

With boxing's No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, Manny Pacquiao, still searching for his next opponent, there was some speculation that Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs)may have been looking for an excuse to get out of a fight with Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KOs) and move straight to a mega fight with Pacquiao.

But Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who promotes Marquez, told SI.com on Sunday that the contract between Marquez and Mayweather is still in place and the fight would be rescheduled in the fall.

"It's a legitimate injury," said Schaefer. "We have talked to a doctor. My understanding is that it is muscle related. It's a tough injury for Floyd because he was looking to fight twice this year. Now he is probably only going to get to fight once."

HBO senior VP Mark Taffet told SI.com the network has an open schedule in the fall and plans on airing the fight whenever Mayweather is ready to fight. Taffet said that HBO will hold production on the Emmy Award-winning reality series 24/7 but resume production whenever Mayweather declares himself fit.

Said Marquez, "I was very disappointed to hear the news about the fight being postponed. I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight whenever the fight is rescheduled for."

is it the ribs or just the muscles on the ribs? might not be that serious after all as the others are assuming

i think the fight is more important than any date. It's still the same guys fighting so the draw is the same. Sept wont help or hurt.

If we don't know how bad it is how can we know if 6 weeks is enough or not. I knew someone with this type of injury (rib cartalage pull), they were suppose to be out a few weeks but the reinjured it and made it worse then could not work for like a year.

If this is the injury he has (how Schaeffer explained it this is what they are saying it is) he can not do any activity until he is healed all the way, so he would have to start his training from square one (well I am sure he would want to get a full 6 weeks in).

I hope it is not that serious though, but this type of injury is no joke for an athlete (if this is the type of injury he has).

I say it is the reverse, he would have been better off to have broken ribs then the rib muscle injury, bones are very easy to know when they are healed muscles can be much more problematic.
