However I would add to the list of things that might have affected Cotto's performance is Joshua Clottey's boxng style. His style could create problems to any boxer at 147 and 154, where I beleive can win also.
However I must say something about Cotto, he could had easily choose the easy way out at round 6 or 7, when asked by the doctors if he was okay. He could easily complain and say he was not seeing very well, which was obvious, and the fight would had been stopped while he was clearly in front in the cards.
The fact that he choose to continue fighting under those circumstances and knowing that he would win easily, if the fight would had been stopped, says a lot about Cotto and shuts up all the people that were calling him a quiter.
That's the kind of warrior people like to see and even though decisions like that and not winning to clinch in the ring may hurt him, it's what makes Cotto so special for the old school boxing fans.

Although you make an interesting point, advertisement on the canvas is nothing new. It was just a bit of bad luck being at the wrong place at the wrong time, with the corner of Cotto being supposedly wet.
Look i had& have love for both fighters but if you notice clotty had the most problems with the mat slipping a lot during. Cotto the man that he could keep going the way he did! A rematch would be great next time i hope clotty will not complain to the ref.
